Disgusting. Scotland v wales in Cumbria. Absolute joke and waste of space. Absolute backwards mentality
If you knew any of the history of Scotland and Cumberland ( now part of Cumbria), you would know Cumberland, and therefore Workington, was actually part of Scotland at the time of the Domesday Book 1086.
Workington Town will probably have 4 players in the Scotland squad.
I have it on good authority that the club are just as frustrated as us in their attempts to make signings. I understand that they had agreed terms with 2 good standard Yorkshire based players who both decided at the last minute that they didn't want to come up here, a Lancashire based half back who suddenly got a better offer closer to home, and had Chris Annakin in the bag until his unfortunate injury ruled the deal out. The directors can't be held responsible for things like that, they did their best to sign these lads but circumstances have not made it possible.
Obviously, although there's been no formal announcement, it is clear that we are going to be in a partnership with Wigan - whether formally or informally - and I assume they will be making some of their fringe players available to us.
As was explained at the fans forum, they won't go public with names until they have signed on the dotted line because of those reasons and the BOD won't risk putting the club in a suicidal financial position by offering daft deals unlike that lot down the road who have been signing on mercenary travellers for the fun of it. I know one lifelong Haven fan with 40+ years of watching Haven, has told me he won't be going this coming season for that reason.
Town have got a Cumbrian squad + Connor and Stack and Forber...... and they will all play with pride for badge. Hopefully with the addition of a couple of SL DR/loan deals we will have a squad good enough to compete for the top 8 at the end of the season.
