South Trafford Raiders rise again!

21 March 2015 - 03:14 PM

STR held a pre season launch last Thursday were the 30 odd parents and children were kindly joined by Liam Hood and Alan Hunte from Salford RDs. Many thanks for their time, support and insight into professional rugby.

What started two years ago with c10 children is now looking more promising. Although largely dependent on children coming off season from local RU teams we now have a full u14 squad and enough for a development u13s team who aim to play a number of friendies over the season. We've even managed to get two sponsors for polo shirts and training kit.

Last year we started with five defeats - four where we were nilled - to bouncing six wins from the next seven. Whilst we won't win the league we aim to enjoy ourself this season!

Training 7-8pm BTH school Atrincham! Anyone interested very welcome !

When was the last time you watched RL and there was no tries?

07 March 2015 - 12:13 PM

Bath v Sale. How kind is the press to rah rah? Why don't they tell it as it is - its just too boring for words !

So when was the last time you watched your team in an RL game and there was no tries from either side.

I think mine was Wigan v Manley, 1987.

What makes RU interesting is the internationals sco v eng maywell be boring - but is nation v nation with a dose of history. We've got it so right on the pitch - just need more leadership off it.

Glad I'm a 13 !

RBS loss

26 February 2015 - 08:09 PM

Enjoyed the sco wales game - but the ref ?

15 February 2015 - 08:09 PM

Enjoyed the wales game - but was lost re second half ref'ing - no one inc. the ref seemed to know the rules - interested to know what the more 'educated' amongst you thought of that?

Exciting, but was it the right result - and is RU now too complicated to ref ?

Embarrassing Stuart Barnes in Sunday Times

01 February 2015 - 12:03 PM

Just when you thought the Rah Rahs had grown up - a little - along comes a very poorly written article of smug, self congratulation, self righteousness, aiming to prove to the luddite Rah Rah world the superior qualities of RU. This dollop of joy - the saxons game - was written by the crusty of school tie Stuart Barnes..

This was a game which Barnes admits was 'a day of precious little back play...' in which 'when he tried an offload, Henry Slade dropped it'. The article ends with the old duffer stating (he) 'has to..prove his potential that some have deceived themselves into seeing'.

The game was awful - I switched it off as one a Friday might I had painting which i did last week to watch. The game was punctuated with stoppages and kicks that took an age. I can imagine Barnes, sweaty palmed - article already written - looking for examples to prove his point.

Burgess is a Rembrandt being hung in the loo

Barnes's joy at Burgess's 'failure' was so great that Stuart Lancaster has since promoted him into the next full England training session.
