At a quick glance what has happened to Friday night Broncos I make it only 4 Friday night home games.

Toughness of draw.   LETS GO WARRIORS!

For me I don't read to much into this as based on last year's finishing positions. Teams will have had complete overhauls since then what with retirements, transfers, etc.

Though the Melbourne conspiracy persuasion will have a field day:shout:

http://www.nrl.com/how-tough-is-your-clubs-2018-draw/tabid/10874/newsid/113911/default.aspx

How tough is your club's 2018 draw?

Could a kind draw help propel the Raiders back into finals contention?

The Roosters may have the most generous fixture list in 2018, while the Warriors will be tested against the best on the road to the finals according to analysis of next season's NRL Telstra Premiership draw.

Determining which clubs have a "hard" or "easy" draw is a complicated question – travel, time between matches and State of Origin scheduling are all factors – but a simple way to look at the difficulty of each team's draw is by looking at their opponents.

A 25-round competition with one bye means each club plays nine other teams twice and six teams just once, so some clubs could be said to have easier draws than others.

Note that a "tougher" draw isn't necessarily a bad thing – sure it might hurt your chances of sneaking into the finals but if your team can make the top eight they'll arguably be more battle hardened, having already played a lot of matches against strong sides (see North Queensland's surprise run to the grand final after enduring a tough draw in 2017).

Also, there's an obvious advantage for the better teams when analysing draws like this – because highly-rated teams like the Roosters and Melbourne Storm can't play against themselves.

That being said, here's how each club's draws rank, toughest to easiest, based on premiership betting for the 2018 season.

1. Warriors (234 points)
2. Titans (226)
=3. Sharks (218)
=3. Bulldogs (218)
=3. Wests Tigers (218)
=6. Sea Eagles (216)
=6. Knights (216)
8. Cowboys (208)
9. Rabbitohs (207)
10. Broncos (205)
11. Dragons (202)
12. Eels (191)
13. Panthers (190)
14. Raiders (189)
15. Storm (180)
16. Roosters (170)

Full 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership Draw

How did we work these out? Each NRL team was attributed a score out of 16, based on their ranking in premiership betting. Current dual premiership favourites the Storm and Roosters were both valued at 16 points, while wooden spoon favourites the Wests Tigers were valued at 1 point.

We then went through each club's 2018 draw and added up the total score of all their opponents for the season to come up with their "draw toughness" score.

The Warriors will play a string of big games, including two matches against each of the Roosters, Storm, Cowboys and Broncos. At the other end of the scale the Roosters and Storm only play against each other once, and the Roosters only have one game (at home) against the Cowboys.

The Bulldogs have the toughest first half of the season, facing the five highest-rated teams within the opening nine rounds, but if they can get through that they do have the "easiest" second half of the campaign in terms of opponents. It's a similar story for the Wests Tigers, who start the season with games against each of last season's top four teams but finish with nine of their last 10 games coming against teams that missed the finals in 2017.

The Broncos meanwhile have a relatively smooth start to the campaign but face the toughest second half of the year on our draw toughness scale.

Yes, I agree. There’s folk on another forum saying giving the contract to Premier Sports in 2013 was bizarre. I think it has worked well. Their coverage has improved year on year. 2016 probably had the most extras with Sterlo, Matty Johns shows as well as a Footy Show.

I don’t want to subscribe to Sky Sports or BT Sports if NRL were to go to either of them.

A free channel like Eurosport wouldn’t be likely to get it surely, and they wouldn’t be likely to show every game.

Premier has been good value with every NRL game plus the extras including Finals, Origin etc.

I guess those folk are BT Internet subscribers who want BT to bid for the contract so they don't have to fork out a tenner.;)

Ah 2016 the golden year.

Perhaps worryingly on the Premier twitter feed, League is rarely mentioned indeed they themselves stated last year that the numbers who subscribed for League had dropped.

One of the few advantages of a Pay TV monopoly - you only subscribe to one network and you get everything. IMO, we've seen the last of the big TV deals in OZ. I've been saying for a long time that the NRL will eventually broadcast its own games through its own subscription service. The amounts that our (especially) free-to-air networks have been paying for sport aren't sustainable. Channel 10 just went belly-up so they won't be competing for anything (except Lisa Wilkinson, but that's a local story) which leaves 7 and 9 to carve up so much available sport that some governing bodies will be paying the networks for air time.

Quite frankly the whole easy / tough draw means next to nothing given that so many things can change before next March and throughout the season.

I do agree with LRL that having teams play each other twice before they've even faced the other 14 teams in the league, especially in such a short span, is rather poor. It happens every year when it should not.

A better schedule in my opinion with the current 16-team set up would be the following:

2 groups of 8 teams for scheduling purpose only (loosely based on previous year ladder position and derby opponents / rivalries).

R1 to R15 ==> Face all other teams in the league

R16 to R22 ==> Face all  teams in the same group

It could go like this:

W1-W9 ==> R1-R9

W10 ==> Origin 1 / Internationals

W11-W13 ==> R10-R12

W14 ==> Origin 2 / Internationals

W15-W17 ==> R13-R15

W18 ==> Origin 3 / Internationals

W19-W25 ==> R16-R22

But it'll never happen since the clubs would only play 22 games a season (club CEOs & TVs would never give it the green light).

Looks like this will be how to watch NRL next year in the UK.

http://www.nrl.com/landmark-international-rights-deal-with-fox-sports/tabid/10874/newsid/113968/default.aspx

Seems like no UK channel will be broadcasting and there will be an international deal from Fox. It's a bit short on details at the moment but it appears to be covering NRL, SOO and Aussie international games.

Sadly, on the Premier website when one clicks on the Rugby League tab the NRL section has gone just the RLWC now
