  1. It's a sport that is relatively new, so there are still lots of players that are very raw. The longer they all play, the more juniors get involved in it, then the standard raises. It doesn't happen overnight. Apparently for Huddersfield, the crowd that come to watch the womens RL have no interest in watching the men's team, so not sure it matters much for them. I can't imagine it costs a huge amount more to open the stadium a few hours earlier and pay those staffing costs, etc.
  2. I wouldn't say that London RL is dead, or even that the Broncos brand is completely dead. It's just that the Broncos have zero money so they lose every week, no new fan is going to come and watch that every other week. The first game of the season had 5k which is pretty decent considering our crowds for the last few seasons. London need a winning side, with marketing and then crowds will be drawn and more of a fanbase can be built upon. SL or the NRL should have eyes on London RL juniors - There is so much untapped talent in London, they have seen KPP who is turning in great performances in the NRL, and we had another London product previously over there.
  3. I didn't watch the game last night live, but just watched the highlights after your post to see the penalty try myself - Burgess's "first contact to the shoulder" is so miniscule before his arm goes straight to his neck that I don't see how you get to the opinion that the arm raised up from shoulder to head, rather than it just going straight to the neck.
  4. Or when they're only in the very low 4 figures.
  5. It is also strongly in their interest to try and win Super League.
  6. It wouldn't surprise you if Jamaica beat France? It would certainly surprise me.
  7. He has a SL to try and win, his priority isn't for the French National Team to win. So despite what he may say in the media, I doubt he would be encouraging all of his best players to play.
  8. Never heard of any double headers where you had to buy 2 tickets & leave in between games and re-enter. I guess they are expecting a full house, so can't double sell seats .....
  9. Congrats, but the previous years still matter, you are saying that the Leigh model is the blueprint, well that also includes the seasons before they finally managed to win promotion, it also includes all the turmoil that was happening before. And like you said, it was only 3000 attending in the Championship, so it was unsustainable, just as Featherstone found out last year.
  10. It isn't the best way because it is completely unsustainable, what happened the years before you eventually got promoted? Players being sacked, not paid in time, etc. That is the roadmap for Leigh's promotion as well, not just the last season when they finally managed it.
  11. But you say that this would put investors off as they have to wait 3-5 years, most investors in sports clubs aren't looking for a return on their money. But with Leigh as an example, how many years did DB spend big in the Championship to keep failing at getting to SL? You said yourself it would take 3 years to get Halifax to perhaps be in a place for promotion. What is the big difference between what it was compared to what it is now?
  12. You keep bringing up Beaumont and his 5 year plan. How much money do you think he spent before Leigh actually achieved SL? And what did they achieve during those years other than eventually making it to SL? Leigh's model of promotion isn't the best way to do it, it is far from perfect, and Leigh lost lots of money before eventually succeeding. You say that DH may have said "what's the point" etc if IMG came earlier, but that is just you putting your thoughts onto him, he has mentioned that he is working to improve IMG grades, and didn't seem all that critical. If IMG was so bad, nothing is stopping him from withdrawing his money right now.
  13. At some point the club/team needs to start investing in areas that aren't just on the pitch. People bemoan how small time out sport is, but we have all just accepted that if some clubs had invested their money better 20 years ago, they would be in a much better position at this stage, rather than playing out of dilapidated stadiums, etc. If you want more people to come to your stadium, then sure you need an exciting team to watch, but you also need the facilities to accommodate people, and the reach to target them in the first place.
