Daryl Clark on what Paul Rowley has changed at St Helens

DARYL CLARK believes Paul Rowley’s willingness to let St Helens players back themselves is the catalyst for the club’s rise to the top of the Super League ladder.

Following Saints’ 24-14 win over Hull FC on Thursday night, the Merseyside club sat atop the Super League ladder – with Warrington Wolves, Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors still to play.

However, though Rowley earned considerable plaudits whilst at Salford Red Devils for the way in which he had his side attack, his time at Saints so far has been full of grit and determination.

With Saints locked at 14-14 at one point during Thursday night’s fixture, Rowley’s men managed to slowly assert their dominance over Hull FC to take home yet another two points.

And Clark has hailed Rowley for the way in which he has backed his players.

“He’s brought his own style, you’ve seen his teams before, they throw the ball and play high-risk stuff,” Clark said on Sky Sports.

“We rep it all the time in training, we’ve got the skill and he wants us to back ourselves, express ourselves and I think we’ve done it a lot this year.

“Hopefully we can keep working on that and do more as we go on through the season.”
