  1. Just been asked about this. It is utter nonsense. Maybe on somebody’s wish list I have no idea but it is not happening. There is no suggestion that I am aware of that the government wants us to merge and cut teams. We should become a more efficient and cost effective sport maybe and the unification of SL with RFL would be a magnificent start. All of us probably will have to cut our cloth but matching expenditure with income is commonsense anyway so nothing new there. We need to all emerge in 2021 in a stable financial condition. That is the simple aim. If we can keep the draw going that is a

  3. This just weighs up our society of today. We are surrounded by the deaths of thousands of people and all we are worried about is a game of rugby. We appreciate that it is one of the finest sports, but let us get our priorities right.

  5. I get really tired of this. Players are part of "the game". If the number of players has expanded, the game has expanded. Coaches are part of "the game". If the number of coaches has expanded, the game has expanded. Clubs are part of "the game". If the number of clubs has expanded, the game has expanded. Fans are part of "the game". If the number of fans has expanded, the game has expanded. It's you who needs to qualify that you only mean players when discussing "expansion".

  6. After Will Forsyth, another terribly sad day for the club. Jack was coach just after I first started watching Dewsbury and helped to put together that great team of the early 1990s. Was always very approachable and I remember him helping me out with a school project once. He was still the face of the club long after we moved to the new ground. Will be very much missed.

  7. Just say we get back paying and my team FEV win grand final earning them the right to promotion but due to circumstance that did not happen I'm sure a super league payment of £1,825,000 sky money into our bank account would sweeten our disappointment?????

Now I have my son home form University (I had to go and get him - he had been alone in his house for 8 days so seemed pretty safe - not seen him since January), we have had a n interesting conversation re the ad campaigns. We have realised those of us over 45 will remember the "Don't die of ignorance" HIV/AIDS campaign which was much starker and harder hitting considering the MUCH lower mortality rate so this seems muted to us, whilst younger people have never seen any kind of blunt government health info films

  16. Of course it is. People are talking about a return of Rugby League and there’s even been talk from Elstone that he’s still hopeful of crowds this year. If/when crowds are allowed, it’s still up to people if they feel comfortable attending and being around crowds because I know some people would not and you can’t blame them.

  18. Not an expert, but a knowledgeable observer. Considering how the inclusion of an Italian team not too far from the French border in the French leagues collapsed due to complaints about travel for matches, it's hardly rocket science to know that a multinational RL competition will need serious financial backing and that in view of the game's litany of failed expansion efforts the organizers will need to show a very serious, professional and credible approach to obtain the needed backing. The fact that Red Star Belgrade has so far not invested any money in the team which bears their name says

  19. Surely there cant be many fans asking for season ticket refunds? If you have a season ticket in the first place you are pretty committed to your club. It's hard to see too many asking for money back when they know clubs are struggling. And I know times are hard, but the money was spend months ago. No one is any worse off for not being able to attend.

  20. Yes. I saw a tweet from the Peak District national park and the place which featured in their tweet about not going to the Peak District was very busy apparently and no toilets were available. So what happened? People used the street instead. Lovely. Not. But I think the day has gone alright overall. Even the Guardian could only find two incidents of real busy-ness (one of which was the same place in the Peak District - maybe there is a lesson in there for the Peak District National Park!). Mostly it seems places are reporting that their areas were busy but manageable. Those int

  23. I'm alright with losing season ticket money as I am a long time Hull FC season ticket holder so its money I was going to spend anyway and I buy the home shirt every year regardless of how much I wear it cos it goes in the collection so I've not lost money as such, it was money already allocated so I'm not missing it.

  24. Not saying top 10 but a film I do really like is Bend it like Beckham. Just a fun, pleasant and enjoyable film that touches on cultural and social issues to give it a bit of extra depth but not filled with unnecessary amounts of drama or conflict which seems to be a requirement of too many films these days.

  26. A game of Rugby is not "all" people are worried about. In fact doubt very many people are "worried" about it at all. It's perfectly possible to be very aware of the reality of the virus while considering other things in life at the same time. Anyone who pretends it isn't is just trying to shut down people's conversations.

  27. Can I just say Steve from GoMedia is doing his best to sort out issues with ticketing at no extra cost to the Club. Clearly we would prefer no problems for anybody but if you have a problem if you communicate with him he will try to resolve it and hopefully going forward there will be no further issues for anybody when trying to buy on our site. This is frustrating for people it affects and I apologise. Regrettably I am clueless on such issues( any many more) so I can’t help other than ask you to please go through Steve at GoMedia. We do really need as many supporters as possible to buy draw t

  28. Yes - basically you train them so that it's a game with a reward at the end. I remember seeing an explosives dog in training. It was a typical spaniel bouncing around and sniffing away merrily but when it came to the suitcase containing the bomb it immediately sat bolt upright and didn't move until given the command to fetch its toy.

  29. I find watching dogs at work fascinating, whatever they're doing. When I used to take mine to the local dog club there was an Assistance Dog there who could load and unload the washing machine, take and fetch a multitude of items by name, open doors and go to the local shop for its owner; it was also simply the family pet who liked nothing better than to run around like an idiot and roll in the most disgusting things it could find!

One of the side effects of lockdown will be people like Michael Portillo , Chris Tarrant , Tony Robinson and all the rest having to stay at home ... and so celebs won’t be able to jolly around the world in luxury having a spiffing time on our dosh telling us how wonderful all these places are I’ll never go to . A bunch of separate, competing companies operating in the same industry get together and tell potential employees that if they want to join the industry, they have to work for a specific company, based in a specific location. Oh, and by the way, we've all got together and agreed a limit on wages too. Good luck with getting that through the courts. Major league sports in the US can do it because they're specifically exempted from all kinds of employment law, anti-trust law etc. Until that happens here, forget about it. Even if the UK government somehow says yes, I don't think the EU will

  37. This is a situation that will be common across the lower leagues of all sports. The premier League and maybe the championship in football could consider playing behind closed doors and for SL it is a possibility too as there are TV deals in place. For lower league clubs in all sports where TV isn't dishing cash out, playing behind closed doors increases your cost base without increasing your income. Much as I want to see the game back, it would be financial recklessness to take it on before the turnstiles can open.

  38. No... T’is the day before Ireland vs. New Zealand in the 2021 World Cup. Dec O’Donnell: I wish we had a few more games together to prepare for this. James Bentley: It’s ok pal, 6 of us played against England last year for the Celts. We’ll be ok... - These nations won’t progress unless they play against the top nations as nations. The Celts would be competitive, yes. But it’s not my cup of tea.

He's making nice mood music noises which basically stop short of saying "there will never be a live rugby match in this country in front of a crowd again" and that's about it. If you parse that report it boils down to "we want to get rugby league played again as soon as we can, it will be behind closed doors to start with, we continue to explore options for getting fans back as soon as possible." To be honest, I could have written that on page one of this thread bec

  44. That will be due to the fact that it's Red Star Belgrade and RLEF board member Colin Kleyweg who are behind the other proposal. Now is not the time to distance themselves without even talking to the Euro XIII group and trying to get everyone singing of the same song sheet. How often do we see the game being held back due to the inability to bring all ideas to the table and discussing compromise for the good of the game

  45. In 17 years the RLEF has grown its membership from nine to now playing the game at some level in over 20 European countries, plus the African and American nations that fall under their umbrella. They have secured Erasmus funding which in turn has led to grants towards development of coaches and referees throughout Europe. They have created a meaningful international calander with promotion and relegation and given developing countries like Greece a pathway into the World Cup final stages. I attended the meeting in Paris in 2003 when the RLEF was formed and to say they have "done nothing

  47. I enjoyed these challenges and the Middlesex 7's invitationals to Wigan and Bradford back then. Older now, I do suspect whether this was all part of a 'very clever' plan by The RFU to showcase Rugby League talent and cast vision for the future of the RFU full time full pro era. They have so many of League's greatest from back then in coaching. Not to mention some of the players who made it crossing codes. It's more the coaches for me. Union attack looks more league like than it ever did back then. Plus defence coaches who have strengthened this aka Shaun Edwards. Don

They're hopeful they *might* get some more games this year and they'd *like* fans to be there. No one, at the head of any organisation, is going to say other than this unless and until they either are announcing immediate resumption, or biting the bullet and saying "not going to happen." It's just what used to be called "warm bath words"

  50. Some clubs may not have the option, Manchester Rangers were not admitted and, I believe, told applications were not welcome at that time. It may be the same going forward for other perspective clubs and if it’s a choice between nothing or the Euro League, I’m sure most would take the Euro League, finances depending.
