Those empty seats were largely ground level which are exposed to the torrential rain that was falling…lots of folks were sheltering in the concourse and bars watching the game on TVs. Also some of those seats are reserved for Suncorp Stadium members which pay big bucks for every event at the stadium and are rarely 100% full.

Another week off for Rochdale Hornets in this stop-start-stop season. Dont our leaders realise folks find something else to do with their weekends when their team isnt playing. Its the third blank weekend since the start of the season and we are still in March. Got another in two weeks time. I don't suppose it will be Nigel’s list of strategic priorities though.

A rugby league ball is oval shaped and smooth from continual handling. A rugby union ball is a gathering of public school toffs in tuxedos sipping gin and tonics. -

So did the leigh miners eat humble pie to…or was it just the wigan folk? -
Yes the central section are the expensive seats …the two sections to the left as you look on TV are members sections ( i think they call them the steel sections or something like that) which are usually pretty full. The other thing you have to allow for at day games ( and this was a night game bear in mind) is that people move to seats in the shade on sunny days. Its a concrete stadium which gets blistering hot on sunny days). I was there for the commonwealth games 7s final day in 2018 and the heat was unbearable. People were hiding in the concourses to avoid the heat (unlike at the millenium stadium where they hide in the concourses to avoid the rugby).

Id prefer 1895 to 1995. 1995 was the start of the great division….Small number of FT professional clubs subsidised by Rapidly declining TV revenues and the traditional part time game gradually withering away. -
Storm was Thursday night….always a downer for crowds. No problem with the reported crowd at CBUS. Yes down on last seasons average but Newcastle are not a big draw. Also seemed like an eternity waiting for first home game….its was the fourth week of footy before they got to play at home.

Broncos marked the retirement of Corey Oates prior to the Cowboys game. However they managed to turn this well intentioned gesture into a bit of an own goal. Sam Thaiday interviewed him on the pitch in the pre game build up and then Corey went on a ‘lap of honour’ with his partner and two young kids around the pitch allowing the fans to show their appreciation for a wonderful career. Unfortunately this was ruined by the lights being extinguished while the video boards and (very) loudspeaker announced the broncos line up accompanied by a firework show leaving the lap of honour in the dark. There is something about the broncos these days, how they manage to turn a big PR plus into an own goal. It seems to coincide with the running of the club being left to non Queenslanders who just dont know the Broncos DNA. You deserved better Corey….thanks for the many happy memories of a wonderful career….and apart from all those wonderful tries you scored for the broncos how could we ever forget that near length of the field try at Suncorp for the maroons in what Paul Gallen described as the worst Queensland team ever. -
