They use the word ‘confirmed’ but still dont know how many teams will be in the league. Last season we had a club pull the plug just before the start of the season leaving the fixture list in a mess. Clearly they are bracing themselves for something similar, should it happen, and have a plan B ready.

RFL marketing gurus really do have a step or two on their colleagues in other sports. Never seen NFL sell superbowl tickets at 50% off, Has anyone managed to get half price Wimbledon tickets? Any Man City fans on here to tell us how much discount they got on Champions league final and FACup final tickets. What next….I am expecting tickets dropping out of the corn flakes packet soon. The only people buying tickets so far in advance are likely to be folks who know already they will go, precisely because they always go. So these discounts essentially reduce revenue. I hope they passed this particular brain wave past their IMG friends first. Anyway now they have got this urgent priority out of the way we can turn our attention to more minor less pressing matters like the structure of the game below super league. Clubs already back in pre season training without knowing who they will play against, how many games there will be.

My understanding of the word luxurious is ‘extremely comfortable or elegant’. I have never flown economy in such conditions. Burgess is 6ft 5 ins and touching 19stone.

Pretty luxurious? Have you flown economy from Australia to UK recently. Nothing luxurious about it I can assure you. I have no idea how a rugby league player manages to fit into an economy seat…and for 20 hours or more. How do the RFL mucky mucks travel I wonder.

Ekka is a large oval badly outdated ( Think Odsal x 10) While there is some talk of it being used for Lions AFL games during the pre olympics renovations of the Gabba it would not be suitable for NRL. Also its wide open to the elements and the limited grandstand accommodation is basic wooden benches. Carrara (now called heritage bank stadium) is a modern facility but designed for AFL. There is already a modern ‘rectangular’ stadium down the road (CBUS) but its been an ongoing struggle for Titans to maintain good crowds in the Gold Coast area. Putting another team in there is unlikely to get the required crowds. Any new SE Queensland team would need to play in Brisbane to get sufficient support. The only other stadium in the State of NRL standard is Country Bank but Townsville couldnt support a second team. Sunshine Coast stadium has the potential for being developed into an NRL stadium (currently has one small grandstand and three grassy hills) but it would require major investment and questionable if the area would generate sufficient crowds. Its a good hour north of Brisbane and the highway is known for traffic jams during commuting hours. The proposed train line extension in advance of olympics is currently uncertain due to government funding challenges.

It would be nice to get an announcement on the league 1 structure before Xmas so that clubs can start selling season tickets sponsorships etc. That should have greater priority than three internationals at then end of next season.

No more queensland teams without a new stadium somewhere. Suncorp already has 4 professional sports teams playing there (plus any games NRLW play there) as well as magic round.

Come on clubs who voted for this nonsense…get your fingers out. While I understand the need to work within this deeply flawed system (fancy having to approach kids to find the best way of milking the system) I have to wonder how did we ever get to this stage. I suppose its roots are the Superleague clubs striving to find a way to protect themselves against losing the riches of superleague membership. Some of us are old enough to remember Wigan being relegated. Clubs are starting pre season training without knowing the structure of the league for the season. Perhaps RFL could ask IMG to spend a few minutes of their contracted time helping with that. Does seem to have a certain urgency about it.

Dont get ahead of yourself. They dont know the format for 2024 yet. First things first. Best we can hope for given the clowns we have running the game is that all clubs will know the format for 2024 going into the 2025 season.

Rochdale…had their financial portion downgraded further I belive…not that I understand all these things….I am simply a fan of the game. Downgrade it any y more and it will be negative..

So now three clubs (that we know of) received the wrong score. Possibly more to come. Looks like the legal profession will have another source of income this time next year.

Can just see the coaches team talk next year ”Come on lads, its a big game today, a real 0.14 pointer with them being just below us. Win today and another 0.011 points next week and we should be safe”

What has the game come to? Wonder what the likes of Johnny Fishwick and Stan Owen would of thought of putting it all on the line for 0.18 points….or being told they have to focus on improving their Fandom score. Wake me up when common sense returns to RL.
