The Art of Hand and Foot
To be honest, in Oldham's heyday in the fifties we didn't play everyone home and away. That's why they had the championship/premiership play offs.
clifford
My dad use to say that Oldham played all Lancashire teams home and away and then selected other teams depending on where you finished in the league
D1041
When promotion is involved everyone should play each other home and away
Roughyedz
My dad use to say that Oldham played all Lancashire teams home and away and then selected other teams depending on where you finished in the league Thats Correct , all the results against the Lancashire teams were made up into a Lancashire League , and one unforetunate Yorkshire club had to play as a Lancashire club for this reason ... They used to play around 40 fixtures a season thgen, not the paltry 20 or so now. More income of cource.
