Are we going to see any games?

I cannot see any games played until players, coaches, refs, backroom staff, etc  can at least be swab tested to see if they have the virus. This is currently being limited to key workers in NHS, etc. I believe that the blood (antibodies) test to determine if people have had it, is not yet available.  Apparently, the WHO has said that no tests can yet show if someone is immune or protected against reinfection.  Nor will there be a vaccine for some time.  Are those involved going to risk taking the virus back to their families and the wider community?

Hunslet's Chairman: "We, along with other Championship and League One clubs, have made it clear reconvening the season behind closed doors would put us under severe financial pressure - and the RFL is sympathetic to that point of view.  However, we cannot rule out the possibility we will not play again this season.  That is not a comment from a position of knowledge, but more a pragmatic realism given what we are seeing and hearing daily from a variety of government sources."

Yorkshire Evening Post- Inside Rugby League column: "The most important thing, at this stage, is that the sport and its individual clubs survive and everyone involved stays safe and healthy."

It is good to hear the positive vibes coming from Hornets online and social media in these extremely difficult times. Keep safe.

PS

The Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons will not resume after France banned all sporting events, including behind closed doors, until September.

"Rimmer's immediate task is to ensure clubs are on a strong enough footing to emerge post-lockdown.

The £16m, secured by the governing body, will be filtered throughout the professional game from the Super League down to the League One, semi-professional clubs.

However, Catalans Dragons, Toronto Wolfpack and Toulouse are not able to draw on the funding. (Nor the Welsh clubs!)

"The sport and governing body took some fairly drastic measures in order to cut their cloth when this lockdown period began," Rimmer said.

"None of them should be considered backtracked and it has to be used to move forward. It's all about moving forward and being fit for the future and it's not a lump sum in the bank account of each club and saying to them crack on as you were.

"We have to be meticulous in how we apply it to ensure we're sustainable in the future."

I would hazard a guess that new league formats with fewer clubs will emerge for 2021. The Chairman's recent update on Hornets is encouraging and, potentially, this latest news augurs well for Hornets beyond Covid. There's an early opportunity to raise matters with or listen to Steve Kerr, Andy Mazey and Matt Calland on the Webinar 6 May at 6.30pm.:

Although no cancellation of the Ashes tests yet, the NRL have rescheduled its season to have the Grand Final in late October followed by three origin games in November.

I cant see international travel resuming this year.
