RL left behind....again

Super League could have returned hard on the heels of Premier League & Championship football but the sums just didn't add up.

The clubs just can't afford to bring players off furlough and pay the wages themselves and that's because there is zero income coming in. So they have decided to wait until August when the furlough scheme ends so as to milk every last penny.

There is also the fact that the later the season resumes the more likely some games can be played in front of paying spectators. Personally I think this is a forlorn hope.

All that is keeping most of the clubs afloat is the SKY TV payments and that is the ONLY reason that Super League will be played at all in 2020 IMO but it will be behind closed doors.

Championship and League 1 have no chance at all.

A 10/11 or 12 team mini SL all playing each other once from mid August till the end of November ( before all the contracts expire ) with a 2nd v 3rd semi to play the league leaders in a GF

That's about it , all games televised would just about fullfill the number of SKY contracted games

Easier to start soccer and cricket though isn't it.

No contact and plenty of cash (in higher leagues soccer/international cricket) make it an easier thing to do

Football hasn't restarted, the TV show called the Premier league and it's feeder show, the championship have restarted, but only to satisfy global TV audiences and big bucks sponsors, they don't care about fans, players, staff etc only to get the games on so people can watch on TV and SKY can start recouping some lost money etc.

The rest of football has finished and won't be starting up again soon, same in Germany, only the top 2 leagues are being played, again, without fans etc the rest is finished.

The non leagues have had a briefing from the FA. The most common assumption now is that steps 1-7 en masse (National League down to equivalents to North West Counties) will start again in mid to late September. They will lose county and league cups to ensure the league season can be played in a tighter timeframe.
