Nathan Cleary's 3 point haul in Brisbane sends him 4 points clear at the top of the Dally M leaderboard.  Teammate James Fisher-Harris is up to 3rd with 2 points.

Again though, shout out to Tom Trbojevic who is up to 12 points from just 5 games with four 3 point games.

Adam Doueihi is also having a good season at Wests - playing very effectively at either five eight or centre.

Manly’s form has improved altogether since his return.

He is a key man, that's for sure. Just as Cleary is to the Panthers.

I don't know whether Manly would fall back to their early season form if they lost Tom again but they wouldn't be the same side. Maybe Origin will show us how the Panthers are without Cleary.

This is why I think Melbourne are still right at the top of the Premiership favourites as they have been without Papenhuyzen, Grant, Munster and Hughes at times this season (sometimes all 4) and still won. They are not heavily reliant on any one player.

After this week the voting goes behind closed doors so we will have to use our judgement on who is keeping their challenge for the Dally M medal up.

Clearly stays ahead of his closest challengers RTS, Fisher-Harris and Tom Trbojevic.

Just looking at the top of the Dally M table since it went behind closed doors after Round 12.  We have had a shortened round with byes and a full round since then.

I don't think there would have been a lot of movement at the top with State of Origin players rested and James Fisher-Harris and RTS both playing in losing teams.

Despite a couple of errors, Latrell Mitchell may have picked up some points at the weekend but he can't win the award due to picking up a ban.

Do we think any of the players are making a move up the table?  Maybe some Storm (Hughes) or Eels players (Mitch Moses, Reed Mahoney or Gutherson) after two big wins over the last 2 weeks.

You would have to think that Nathan Cleary and Tom Trbojevic picked up 3 points each this week.

This may turn into a two horse race. Which would be even closer if Trbojevic hadn't missed the first 5 rounds.

So who’ll win it?

I have TTurbo out in front for me.

He must be favourite as he had some massive performances but I still think Nathan Cleary will be very close.  He was 6 points ahead the last time we saw and when Penrith win... which they do a lot... he is always front and centre.  This week was the first time Penrith lost with Cleary playing this year wasn't it.

Interesting that DCE is in the mix. This suggests he may have taken a few 3 point hauls later in the season which may effect Tom Trbojevic's chances.

Because of this, I am going for Clearly to have stayed ahead of the pack and pick up the award.

Wouldn’t rule out Tedesco who’s been consistently outstanding for a decimated Roosters team, puzzling that no players from the Storm made the shortlist.

I’ve asked this in the match thread but this is probably a better place for it. Seeing as any two bans or any ban for more than two games disqualifies you from the Dally M. If Cleary wins the Dally M on Monday then cops a ban for his on report tackle would they have to take it off him. Same question for any player who won it and then got a disqualifying ban in the grand final.

Good question. You'd think if he was going to win it they would be in a quandary if a charge and a appearance at the judiciary was pending.
As it happens they are spared facing it. Cleary despite being put on report hasn’t been charged so is okay to play.

He has had a great season. I reckon TTurbo could have pipped him to the award though. His contribution to Manly since his comeback from injury has been monumental.

Key points:

  • Trbojevic polled 35 points, with Nathan Cleary second on the standings with 30
  • The Manly star only played 15 of a possible 24 matches during the regular season
  • He also claimed the Fullback of the Year award

Staggering achievement by Trbojevic to amass so many points in so few games.  He has been outstanding this year.
