When Rovers are playing Oldham It always draws me back to that fateful day in April 95.

Oldham were Rovers' last opponents in the top flight of Rugby League 26 years ago. 

I remember the march from Pontefract to the game. A game Rovers dominated and won fairly comprehensively. The after match, aftermath, my worst thoughts that the club was finished were at that moment, however it is testament to all the hard work by staff and support of the loyal fans that 26 years on a renewal of the fixture is still possible. 

Today is a significant day in the club's history and that of many clubs tonight in that the fans are allowed back, let's hope that this signals a new beginning.

My best memory of this game was a game at the Watersheddings in the early eighties on a snowy, wet , Wednesday night. My old Ford Escort MK2 broke down at Junction 22 and took some restarting.  Eventually we got to the game just on kick off to see former Australian skipper Allan McMahon score two tries in his best performance for us to see us get a famous win. We the limped back to Pontefract getting back about midnight, only for the car to show no ill effects the next day. It clearly just didn't want to go To Oldham on a miserable February night!

"Out of the way,son. Where's my medal?" Alex Murphy's immortal words as David Hobbs scores his 2nd try in the '83 Cup Final!

'88 2nd division play off final at Old Trafford.  22-0 down and came back to lead only for Oldham to pinch it at the death (Des Foy?) I'm sure the try came from a penalty when we allegedly stole the ball, or was that 'the' Wakey game or both ????  I remember it was a very warm day.....

Around 1992 my Son who was 10 and i went to Wattersheddings and had some complementary tickets so were sat in main stand. I remember Oldham were beating us and everyone round us were being nice and friendly (older people) and then we started playing well and took the lead and the mood changed lol. We ended up moving and a good job as we ended up winning. Proper RL ground what a shame its no longer there.

It certainly was a rugby league ground my friend. When sheddings was demolished, rugby league effectively died in Oldham. You'd be amazed these days how many people don't know we have a rugby club in either code even though we actually have both. Sad isn't it?

Been on Internet  ( bored lol) looking at photos of Watersheddings ,Athletic Ground (Rochdale) and old Craven Park Hull KR. Watersheddings must have been great in its hey day. The other two left a lot to be desired!

I'm from Oldham mate, the whole of Rochdale leaves a lot to be desired. Apart from Hollingworth Lake. 😅 And yes sheddings was brill. Unfortunately we've never been able to recreate that atmosphere. When Watersheddings went, we lost the club. A really sad time, I was brought up and still live within a 10 minute walk of where the ground stood. I grew up around that ground. 😥
