Tyrone Shoelaces Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Well we nearly won a game we didn’t really deserve to. When they went down to 12 players with 10 minutes to go the game was there for the taking. Unfortunately more dumb rugby meant we couldn’t get much of a foothold in our opponents half. Given the fact we didn’t touch the ball for the first 15 minutes apart from re-starting the game we did well to stay in the game. We dropped too much ball and our decision making left a lot to be desired. It was our first league match of the season and we played like it some of the time. We could regret dropping these two points at the end of the season.
glemiln Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Following the game online for 30mins, before leaving for an appointment, I shuddered to think of our final loss total! Certainly, we cannot give teams that start, especially sides like NWC expected to be one of the front runners. Matt Calland on Twitter was naturally disappointed at the very poor start. That we scored 6 tries to 5 and came so close to victory should, hopefully, augur well for the season. On the main forum a NWC supporter said we gave away four kickable penalties! It must have been a tense affair for the 920(?). Hopefully, this ‘restriction’ will have been lifted in time for the crucial games with Hunslet and particularly our Easter home game with Oldham.

We gave away a penalty in the second half right in front of the sticks. North Wales chose to run it, faffed around with the ball for four tackles and then went for a drop goal on the last tackle ! It missed ! I couldn’t figure that one out.
Anita Bath Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Anybody help me with info on Finlay Stewart who made his debut yesterday. Where did we sign him from, any other background/bio info? Thanks
glemiln Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 The only info I have seen about Finlay is his sponsorship by Bishops Park pitch & putt, Oldham. So, polish up your swing and those clubs - perhaps a supporters v players competition! A surprise yesterday that we didn’t feature on the scorecard for some 30minutes!

We hardly had the ball and when we did have it we dropped it. It took us that long to actually get going.

Yes, we got close after chasing the game down TWICE, but errors and penalties killed us in the end. Must do better.
Excolt 1 Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Five key players missing two of which would have strengthened our weak right edge. At full strength I think Hornets will match any team in this division. We definitely improved when Bennion came on in his first run out for a while.

The Hornet Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 With five big players missing to play so badly yet almost pull it back and lose by just two points to one of the favourites in the competition who have already despatched Swinton and Hunslet tis season is a positive. I think had the game gone on another five minutes we had them and looked the stronger fitness wise at the end of both halves. If we sort out the basics of completing sets and not giving away cheap penalties away with Chase, Brearley, Baker, Ashton and Aspey to come back we will take some beating. Bring on the Welsh Raiders today!
glemiln Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Well….hopefully Hornets can sort the reported errors ( the long journey? ) and quickly…6-16 to Hornets at half-time. Whatever was said at half-time it’s working….34-6 after 13mins. 52-12 full-time….9 tries for us ……2 WW players sent off in 80th minute! Safe journey home for all and prepare well for a much tougher Hunslet/Kilshaw clash….. (Matt Calland was not pleased to another slow first half, see official report.)
