There are times in my job where sustained verbal and physical abuse and provocation aimed at me has pushed me right to the edge. But I have a professional registration at stake which would be compromised if I ever reacted, even verbally. For me, maintaining professional practice at all times is non-negotiable aspect of my registration. Players do wade in. They always have. The consequences of doing so aren't a deterrent.
