5 Year plan announced by P.N.G.N.R.L.C.

Some very exciting developments coming out of New Guinea.

League rolls out five-year plan – The National

"We want to turn PNGNRLC into a professional and well run competition that can make PNG Hunters a stronger team and PNG rugby league can be a force on the world stage.
“Australia’s National Rugby League (NRL) is the benchmark and it’s supported by Queensland Rugby League and New South Wales Rugby League who run their own competitions.
“What we are trying to do is to get PNGNRLC to the second tier level and we will get a lot of support from QRL to do that.”
Portus said the plan would cover salary caps and talent equalisations systems such as the NRL."

The entire article at the link indicates they have a lot of ambition. Junior pathways for males and females and increasing levels of professionalism.

If they pull this off they’ll be a significant force in rugby league.

Yes, and with the Digicel Cup now being renamed the ExxonMobil Digicel Cup following that company`s involvement with P.N.G. Rugby League and some teams introducing some pretty significant sign on fees there does seem to be a lot happening in Rugby League in our nearest northern neighbour.

Interesting that the QRL get a mention for helping the P.N.G.R.L. get all this stuff up and running, I wonder what their angle on making all this happen is. Maybe they envisage several of these P.N.G. teams eventually joining the Qld HostPlus Cup.

Is that two sponsors for one competition? I don't think I've seen that before.

That reminds me, does anyone know if Doncaster are still pursuing Watson Boas and the club he signed for in PNG over his breach of contract?

Thanks for that very positive update on PNG, Rocket.

What is a 'talent equalisation system' and how does it work?  Is it a bit like the draft system in North America where, the lower your finishing position one season, the officially better placed you are to get the pick of next season's new talent on offer?
