One asks oneself why?

Quote

Incoming Dragons coach Shane Flanagan has emphasised Ben Hunt won’t be released amid reports the star halfback wants out of the club immediately.

Flanagan was this week appointed St George Illawarra’s next coach but that hasn’t been enough to persuade Hunt to stay, according to Channel 9’s Danny Weidler.

Fox League contacted Flanagan following Weidler’s tweet and the premiership-winning coach said it was his belief the release request was made weeks ago.

If Ben Hunt did make the request some weeks agao why wasn't it announced then, if he wanted away immediately as quoted above?

Did they think a new head coach's appointment (Flanagan) would make him change his mind?

Dragons seem pretty adamant there will be no release, Hunt is under contract to the Dragons till the completion of the end of the 2025 season. He could end up sitting out the rest of his career if he does not return to the Dragons.

He has no right to sit out. Unless all parties agree, there is no transfer.

He can sit out his choice but he won't get paid by the Dragons, and Hunt won't be able to sign a contract with another club until his current contract with the Dragons has expired.

An update

Hunt has said he will play for the Dragons tonight against the Warriors. After that who knows what will happen. Hunt also said he will play for his team mates and not for the club. Hunt also stated his reason for wanting a release from the Dragons is, the family want to move back to Queensland......So the Ben Hunt saga continues.
