Could there be any future semi-professional team representing the east Anglian region?

a team that represents the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and possibly Bedfordshire.

That’s much too big an area, most of the Vipers away games are 2 hours away, the closest they’ve ever played was in Colchester 80 miles away.

Just to manage expectations here by the way, the Vipers are a second season amateur club who’ve never filmed or streamed a game before; there isn’t going to be multiple camera angles, commentary and replays. However what you will get is a cracking game of rugby league between the two strongest teams in the East of England.

Yeah, that is a pretty big area geographically speaking.

is that area served by any professional/semi-professional union sides?

always remember Bedford having a top flight union side before the game went professional.

Live stream on YouTube in case anyone wants a fix of rugby league tomorrow afternoon. It’s Bedford Tigers v Anglian Vipers at Hemel.

I'll make sure and tune in to boost the numbers if nothing else.

Good luck for the day.

No there’s nothing. Norfolk and Suffolk, while rivals, share a common heritage and purpose. There is literally zero bond between those counties and Bedfordshire or anywhere else in the Anglia TV region. We have Norwich City and Ipswich Town who are all encompassing, and no other professional sport in an area of not far off 2m people.

Weird it was on YouTube live, not sure why it’s been taken down. Tbf the lad doing it had a few issues and it wasn’t great quality so maybe he’s taken it down himself.  Final score Bedford 38 Vipers 28 - congratulations to Bedford, but the Vipers will be back.

Was there another game on at Hemel yesterday or just the East GF?

Does Hemel still have its grandstand from Championship days?

It's likely still up there - it's private not missing - so it looks like it's a settings issue (either it's now deliberately only people with a specific link or accidentally that way).

I did watch a bit of it but it wasn't that easy to see what was going on at the time and Leigh v Catalans was a decent alternative.

Just the GF, and yes the stand is still there but it’s not open, spectators stand by the pitch.

Yes I imagine Leigh v Catalans was a much better watch!

The grandstand is temporarily closed for safety reasons. The wooden decking that came with it when it was purchased from the 2012 Olympics is rotten and needs to be replaced with either metal or plastic decking. The club is awaiting quotes for the work to be done. Cost is likely to be tens of thousands. The grandstand was last used in July for the LJL Grand Finals

When the time comes to fundraise, don't overlook the content of the thread 'Sport England Small Grants programme' helpfully started fairly recently on here by Futtocks.
