At my local club we have around 8 first team regulars out with long term injuries. One injury that is becoming quite common is spinal and neck injuries from crusher tackles that are not being addressed on the field.

I think that very few sportsmen or women are capable of withstanding, for an entire season, what now constitutes a tackle. It used to be when forward progress what halted, it is now when an attacker is wrestled to the ground forcefully by up to four defenders and flung around like a rag doll. The human body cannot take this punishment every week, which is why teams are struggling to put numbers on the field even when the season was just beginning. It wasn't like this in the past.

I wouldn't play League these days  to get thrown around like a piece of meat, waiting for someone to shout "held" whilst four or five opponents are crushing my captive frame.

I totally agree PIgeon Lofter. What is really interesting is that pre season the players had a session with a NCL referee, who showed video evidence of what is now good practice, and what is now deemed not acceptable. In all the games I have seen, and including a performance by that referee, that those rules have not been applied or acted upon. This has led to much confusion over the season.  In the defence of the officials, the game is getting more physical, and faster each year, and for the official to work on their own, without linesman in 90% of games, is putting the official in a situation where they are struggling at times to implement the rules and maintain a safe game. Where there has been linesman, it has been more effective

agree. Weve focused on tackle height and head injuries but personally feel that the speed of the game via six again etc and the numbers teams get into contact which inevitably ends up at players knees etc has created a much larger amount of injuries usually season ending ones

Injuries ocurring in the tackle are not helped when referees call held and the tackle is continued by one, two or more tacklers. This also has the effect of slowing the game down and allowing defences to reform.

I think this season is the worst I can remember for injuries! Would love peoples views on why that is

I fully agree pal, but it's hard to put a finger on why all these injuries have accrued.

I believe Egremont have picked up another injury to a player who looks to have broken his arm, Doesn’t rain but it poor Egremont. Think that’s about 8 players they have now out for rest of the season.
