Which English Super League players are next for the NRL?

Recommended Posts

There will be 10 English players in the NRL in 2019. The English complement in the NRL will look like this:

Ryan Hall

Gareth Widdop

Sam Burgess, Elliot Whitehead, John Bateman

Tom Burgess, George Burgess, James Graham, Ryan Sutton

Josh Hodgson

The 7 players already there have been outstanding successes. Joe Burgess, after an unsuccessful stint with the Sydney Roosters, did quite well at South Sydney.

South Sydney owner Russell Crowe wanted Sam Burgess, and took Sam's three brothers to keep the family happy. George and Tom have turned out very well for Souths.

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart is particularly partial to English players. He has bought five (I am including the Jordan Turner failure).

Wayne Bennett took on Greg Eden for a year. St George-Illawarra took Mike Cooper. Wests Tigers were delighted with Gareth Ellis. The Sydney Roosters loved Adrian Morley.

Who of the current SL stars else would be likely interested, and a likely target for the NRL clubs? Jermaine McGilvary? Kallum Watkins? Chris Hill? Kyle Amor?

Forwards have been the proven success stories, so guys like McMeekan, Walmsley, Thompson, Currie, Clarke would all be in the sights I reckon. As for backs, McGilvray and Watkins could be targets, or a club needing halfback depth might gamble on someone like Trueman or Richardson.

Alex Walmsley has just signed a long term contract with St Helens.

Richardson at St Helens has got to be on the radar of some NRL coaches.
