  2. To fight for the game on social media I often give likes to obscure RL teams who post messages and pictures on Twitter in languages I can't speak a word of. I seem to have a particular habit of doing this with Ukrainian teams for some reason. I also always make sure to select "Hide this ad" on any RU content that appears in my Social Media feeds. When it asks for a reason I carefully select the most negative feedback, such as "Not Relevant" or "Offensive".

  3. Have a think about what impact the union trolls that come here have and then have a moment of reflection about just how that looks.

  4. 1. Have Wigan filled it for club games (including regular fixtures) = yes 2. Is it too big for Wigan RLFC = no Those that think that it is too big are wrong. These things go round in cycles and Wigan are one club capable of 20k+ gates for big games. If they play at a smaller 15k stadium those opportunities are gone forever.

  5. Is that an annual payment? I pay a similar amount for Tiny Ginger to have the thrill of belonging to Table Tennis England (club, match and coaching fees extra). Can’t remember what my England Athletics membership is but again club and coaching costs are on top. Presumably it’s an outrage that is killing the game and the RFL should somehow magically have enough money and resources to do everything perfectly and it wasn’t like this in 1987?

  7. I never miss an opportunity to have a dig at rival codes in the comments sections of the two newspapers I subscribe to on-line, usually the afl ( I always call it fumbleball) and union. Giving it to soccer over here would be like kicking the dog. Despite being barred several times they generally do eventually let me back on, usually only to get barred again after a couple more vitriolic outbursts. My favourite target is one p. fitzsmmns ( I never spell his name with capitals) I give it to him deluxe even when I am banned because I know that **** reads the comments to his articles, because often he replies to them in the comments section and I`ll guarantee he reads the banned ones as well.

  8. You really are an annoying moron. Your posts are one of the reasons I’ve stopped using the forum. We’ve re-signed 19 current players following a successful season. Plus a couple of quality new additions. Some clubs haven’t even got to double figures yet. Trust the coach and trust the club. I’m sure they know what we still need for next year. Yes, a barnstorming Prop would be perfect, but it’s got to be the right one, who also wants to play for us on the money that’s available. Just because another club has signed a player that you think might have been a useful addition it doesn’t mean that our club is failing suddenly and falling backwards. You have no clue of the details or who our club are talking to. Nor also does the club need to satisfy your constant need for updates, information and essentially attention. As fans we all pay our money to comment, both positively and negatively, that’s our right. With you however it’s constant criticism of everything. It’s almost like you are actively looking for fault. And it’s incredibly monotonous now.

  9. Do any of you find yourself doing ridiculous small things to try to help the game, or because of it? For example I buy Batchelors mushy peas because of their sponsorship, even though I prefer Harry Ramsdens.

  10. Switched my gas and electricity supplies to First Utility when they started sponsoring RL. 2014,was it really that long ago? Switched away when they stopped. It appears they were taken over by Shell Energy. I remember filling in a survey for First Utility asking why I'd joined. Obviously, the RL sponsorship was emphasised.

  12. And a few years ago Wigan were averaging 16k+. That would never happen in a 17k stadium. Wigans range has been largely between 10-16k for 30+ years. These things are cyclical.

  13. Thanks Coolie, a supporter in the opposition camp. As you say, it's a forum of opinions. KTF I put money in to everything the club, forum and BISSA runs except the War Chest for my reasons, so reckon I'm entitled as much as the next man to air my opinion. Because someone else's opinion varies from mine I don't post to rip that differing opinion apart.

  21. I don’t even know where to start with all this. I would like to see the results of the consultation as I’ll bet it has ignored all the concerns of the regional leagues. the whole process has been nothing more than a ‘tick box’ exercise to show Sport England that they have consulted with clubs. the RFL seem intent on driving the ‘pay to play’ tax through at any costs. The ‘benefits’ are a joke, what bloody good is a saving on tickets to watch the RL challenge cup! why hasn’t the costs associated with running the amateur game been made public and open to scrutiny by the local clubs and league managements? what benefits are the community clubs now receiving that they didn’t get under the BARLA umbrella? Why hasn’t this been brought in as a club affiliation fee with a cap at say £2500 per club as opposed to the individual fee? Community clubs are now being penalised for doing the player development work for the sport of RL. every club administrator in the country can see the potential damage and negative effect on playing numbers, but all these concerns have been ignored. Usual show from the RFL !!

  22. The RFL could have used the money they got from the SL to cover the costs of the community game first before giving out cash to the Championship & League One. The vast majority of players at SL Academies are provided to them by community clubs after 10 years development The RFL up to now have not disclosed how much it was costing to run the community game - community clubs simply don’t trust them

  23. I think this is the point. Whenever we have had successful seasons in the past we sit back and watch other teams strip us of our better players. This season we have been proactive and signed them up. This is the one big difference to other seasons, and where the club have got their 'ducks in a row.' I am OK people beefing, but look at the facts first.

  27. But we must be in a decent position anyway on the re/signings, better than losing half a dozen like it the past,we must be in for an even better 2022 with the players jelling even more by staying here at the dogs, couple more big lads will help but i for one am very happy, look forward to seeing a couple of new faces for boxing day maybe. how the hell folks can beef after season we have just had is bonkers.

  28. My main concern with it is that the individual players have to pay it. If teams are roping players in for 1-3 games per year to get a team out, this £24 might be the difference between the team playing and forfeiting. How are teams in development areas going to recruit new players if they have to pay £15 literally before their first game? Even if there was just a 2 game grace period, that would be a much better option. I'd much rather see it charged per team, say at 25 * £24 per team so £600 in total. That way clubs can allow for new players as necessary and be much more responsive to individual circumstances and the context of the area and the specific team.

  29. 25k capacity. Wigan getting 10 -11k a game. Less than 50% full so another half empty stadium on Sky. Its 7-8 k too big.

  30. Don’t know if this will pass the moderators but here goes. A father walks by his son’s bedroom and sees the lad playing with himself. Concerned, the father goes into the bedroom and says ‘Son, if you keep doing that you will go blind’. The son replies ‘Dad, I am over here!’

  32. I’d have to agree with Davo5 Lachlan Walmesley is a decent young prospect who backed himself with a team expected to struggle, be interesting to watch his development at Halifax and see if he can back it up with a bit more pressure on him. Surprised with the Cunningham signing as no better than White/Pelissier and I’ve heard of a couple more targets for Toulouse and they are more squad fillers than SL starters. looks like they may go with what they’ve got and back themselves, very similar to Leigh ironically, I hope they don’t waste their chance in SL after all the hard work to get there.

  35. This is all part of a book promotion for christmas. I`ll bet the silly #### hasn`t wanted to nominate either League or union as his greatest sporting achievement because he doesn`t want to offend potential buyers from either codes group of supporters. They mightn`t buy his book. All he`s probably achieved is offending them both now by picking a couple of boxing bouts as his greatest sporting achievement.

  38. I think the key point that has been missed by whoever decided this, is that Boston was most probably has been one of the main icons from Wigan’s heritage. Where he came from, what he achieved, what respect he has in the community & wider communities and that also he is still alive. Wonder what he thinks? Probably just shrugs those big shoulders. A modern day take on what counts. £ over heritage and history.

  40. Even when I am watching a game on Sky, I always have the BBC page open and engage with it.. a few like it is a commentary or clicking through the team pages etc. The more clicks the more likely the sports will have increased coverage. Equally I try and like pages on Facebook and other platforms that are RL focused, particularly new territories and countries.

  47. I don't think anyone would or has said that. The key is that playing in Doncaster, Wakefield etc certainly didn't help and playing at the OLP as it was with a marquee and trestle tables for "club shop" hardly help sells the sport to either supporters or sponsors. Having a good stadium at the OLP will help kick start the Eagles and will give it a home, something that is important in moving the club forward. Since DVS was demolished Eagles have been on a hiding to nothing when they are trying to sell the club because who knew where they would be the next year. Therefore it has gone backwards, the fact it is still around and still in the championship, I believe, is a feat in its own right. There is an interest in RL in the city, its not huge by any stretch but we have amateur clubs and junior clubs in the area now that are growing. If they can tap into that thats a start, it also isnt a city with an RU culture, as such, so you're not fighting against that. But they are starting pretty much from scratch and I dont think anyone would say otherwise. The OLP though will undoubtedly make it easier however that is not to say it will be easy.
