  1. It isn't organised by FIFA, its a UEFA competition that was organised to replace friendlies. It was created to allow teams at the same level to have more competitive games rather than top nations easily battering smaller teams with neither team gaining anything from it. Because it replaced friendlies there isn't actually any more football being played because the games are played during the weekends designated for international friendlies. I'm not particularly a fan of the competition but it's better watching England playing Germany or Italy for a trophy than watching England play some random African team in a meaningless friendly and putting 6 goals on them. It does seem to be helping smaller nations develop which is the point.

  2. Partington needs to play 80 minutes and at Loose forward IMO and that was never happening at Wigan. Him and Smithies are too similar and Smithies is the better player, so it’s a great move for Partington. I think he’ll really make a name for himself at Salford. He’s pretty skilful to be fair to him and he’ll take it to anyone. It’s just his size that stops him being top class.

  3. Looking longer term, being in the second tier whilst qualifying for a Euro should be a positive. I like the Nations League. I like that it really doesn't matter so it's fun if it comes off but you can shrug about it if it doesn't. It's so much better than meaningless friendlies.

  4. Surely the club should let the fans know if any of these "good" names are signed asap. I would've thought there are quite number of disenchanted roughyeds out there. We are desperately in need of some hope and positivity. We need some surprises, good ones though.

  5. Agree P he gives 100% every game but the problm with luke is he doesn't have the WOW factor by that I mean fans are happy to see him play when needs must but aren't sad if he's sat in the stand I'd like to pick him up saw him at odslum and he was one of the best on show think if he plays with better players it will bring the best out of him

  6. For the top nations I'd agree, but it is important for lesser ones. Convoluted it is but it creates a pathway to Euro and WC qualification. To put it simply, play off places for Euros and WC are left available for 4 ( I think) teams who fail to qualify via the groups who preformed best in Nations League. Scotland earned a play off place and qualified for Euros 2021 because they did well in the NL, but didn't qualify via their Euros group. Also I remember commentators saying Wales had a qualification place for the WC play offs " in reserve " from their NL performance if they failed in the WC qualifying group. They didn't fail so didn't need it.
