The demise of David Fifita
Anita Bath replied to DoubleD's topic in The Australian Rugby League Forum
All goes back to Holbrook trying to turn him into a centre. Scored 17 tries in a season for Titans before that brain fade. It was Titans record for tries in a season at the time. -
Due diligence? Not sure sporting organisations know what this means. The individuals misdemeanours extend way back before his time at Rochdale FC. He has had way more than a fair chance. He should never be allowed anywhere near a position with a sports organisation.
-
Wish you good luck with that. But recall a similar thing at Rochdale…three way ownership of the stadium. It all ended in tears and consequences still being felt. Yes the individuals are different but I never liked the three way ownership model….always a risk one will fail to pull their weight. I mean….would you buy a house with two other people who you are not in your family? As I said at the start I do wish you good luck with it.

Depends on what you mean by ‘underneath them’. Rochdale Mayfield are and independent club in NCL premier with a recent history of competing at the top of the amateur game. They have a strong juniors system. They currently have a good relationship with Hornets but that has only emerged in the last year or two. They have produced many players for the pro game including current internationals. Rochdale Hornets have no junior teams but do have a womens team and a wheelchair team.

Somewhat easier than Oldham (fans and part time players) having had to travel to Hull last Friday.

England v Australia 2025 - coming to the UK!

Sold out? I was there and the big stand opposite the main stand was 2/3 empty. I had a seat in one of the wings and moved to sit in the central section to avoid being lonely. Fantastic game though. -

and P&R. -
Trying to think of other examples of clubs moving away from their traditional supporter base. Swinton, Fulham, I suppose you could include Salford, Blackpool, North Wales, Liverpool City, then a whole bunch of short lived ‘expansion’ teams who uprooted - Kent Invicta, Mansfield, Cardiff, etc etc. All seemed to end in tears. One exception might be Coventry moving lock stock and barrel to Birmingham though it's early days. I hope for the sake of the game as a whole that it works for Huddersfield. To everyone except the good folks of Oldham, Huddersfield is known as the cradle of RL.

No…Widnes have a great Stadium, Halifax have the Shay.

Some clubs exist without handouts from taxpayers and miniscule subsidies from RFL. That is success in itself. -

But those sports by and large have never had P&R. In RL we went from a large single division with end of season play offs to a two (and later three) division format with P&R and end of season play offs to three division format with (effectively) no P&R. This has been ‘supported’ by a heavy concentration of TV and sponsorship money into one of those divisions. yes there is more to life than copying other systems…and that includes copying the NRL. -

Not all existing on handouts from taxpayers who have no interest in paying to watch them. -

Had the same experience on a recent cruise holiday….sydneysiders who thought mauls were a thing of beauty …all educated in private schools. -
Yes, for some reason as an opposition fan I never got to ‘hate’ widnes in the same way I ‘hated’ Wigan and Saints. They did play remarkable rugby but then they had remarkable players…and a remarkable coach.

By ‘we’ you mean super league. Can you list what has been achieved in the other 2/3 of the professional game before jumping to womens and wheelchair games? -
That was against the Roosters who have decided to forgo defence this season. Brought down to earth by a well coached but unremarkable Raiders team. Is that the end of the Maguire honeymoon?

Strategic review needs strategic thinking….how about we reroute the M62 from Rochdale through Birmingham, south wales, Cornwall and ending in London carefully avoiding West of the Pennines. We could even add a link road toToronto. we could call it a roadmap for the future -
Alright for a post season booze up like the Headingley 7s was back in 1970s but that all disappeared with professionalism.

The NRL Round 2 Thread
Anita Bath replied to THE RED ROOSTER's topic in The Australian Rugby League Forum
Exciting yes…but mixed with some poor defence from both sides and uncharacteristic errors on the part of Panthers. The two teams have conceded 142 points over the first two games. And thats with two of the top coaches in the game. Lost count of the number of bombs dropped by Edwards. But I expect it will be the same old panthers…..want to be playing your best football in September. -
Apologies….I see I got Bratfert wrong
-
I think they said 2 years on the channel 9 broadcast. Its a bit like Man U moving to Etihad while OT is rebuilt.
-
and the appointment of a certain bradford official to head the strategic review. They could have 11 yorksher teams in super league and the trophy would still end up in Lancashire.
