  1. I didn't you did. Seriously though, you could lay a surface on the pitch or play the game round the corner in a sports hall, or dare I say concert hall. Or as you seem to think I'm thick and don't think of these ridiculously simple options, fit ATV tyres to the wheel chairs.
  2. I don't agree. For example magic quarters could involve various other showcase events around the whole game as a celebration. Ladies Final? Championship 9's. Wheelchair? 4 weeks is plenty of time for the floating fan. Or we just go to Hudds Salford because that's our club, which you imply is more important.
  3. divvying up the bill like a tight arrris at a Christmas Do. We can't help ourselves
  4. A few of my favourites; Mouth like a burnt out fusebox - a more modern phrase to describe those who enjoy recreational substances "Al tan thee arrse" - a sure sign you were in trouble "Yer allus chelpin'" used to describe a whingy kid "Am banner go darn tarn" - a Heavy Woollen favourite. I've lived in the North of North Yorks for 20 years and went in my local last week. On hearing this phrase I asked where the guy was from - Dewsbury Moor. Often linked to "ee wor agate" meaning "he was telling me". You hear both a lot. "There's nowt as thick as folk" - a favourite of my Gran. "If he told you to jump in't Calder would you do it?" - Basically you're easily led.
  5. I think the key to league 1 is it's ability to uncover talent that at the moment, superleague doesn't value. If IMG can open superleague's eyes to the players that league 1 can provide then it has a future. Super league has a reserve grade and an academy where the quality is patchy and games difficult to fulfil. super League has admitted it cannot stand alone in developing talent or commercially hence why it is merging with the RFL, SL is not the answer so IMG have to look at a whole game solution to provide late developers as well as lower quality/ younger players an opportunity to grow themselves and the game in a semi professional League. So I say scrap SL reserve grade and scrap SL academies, create a minimum wage for fully professional players and have a maximum number of players that SL can register. This will stop wholesale signing of talent/ kids that might be offloaded after a year or so. Provide funding to part time clubs to reach out and develop talent and have the loan system working the other way. This funding should be regional so if there are a couple of clubs in a catchment they merge their operations while running separate league teams if they wish. If we think of this as a talent pyramid, we have a chance. FWIW I met Stephen Lloyd, director at Doncaster RU recently (he's a very wealthy guy) who said the basis of a good business is the strength of the base of the pyramid. I get what he means and was using it as an argument against the Premiership going it alone. SL has proven it cannot work alone as it does not own the talent and is not capable of developing enough of its own. Face facts, we need League 1 more than ever. Finally my daughter plays for an U10's side in the North East and we went to a festival where the U10's Shaw Cross side were phenomenal. Lots to learn from for us and not a Super League penny spent on making it happen.
  6. 1995 is a key date because after this time players did nothing but play rugby of both codes. Before this time, there are too many other factors to consider. Therefore the only reasonable conclusion is that this is a time for gathering evidence rather than trying to appropriate blame.
  7. In your opinion. More to do with money and broken time. What it wasn’t about was trying to impose something on people that they didn’t want to have in the pursuit of being seen to do the right thing.
  8. Money lending is gambling. Jesus didn’t like that. He also turned water into wine at a wedding, arguably so people could get pi**ed. Bloody hypocrite.
  9. You can’t score an own goal in RL but Manly have some how managed it. Stay out of politics and populist decisions to avoid the embarrassment of the cancel culture band wagon. Hypocrisy is a symptom of the human condition so anyone above this fundamental flaw may cast the first stone whenever they wish
  10. Yarm Wolves have a very active youth set-up in the NE RL. I believe they may now have open age? They are in my opinion, the team to beat in the NE youth leagues.
  11. Google maps. Stick Hunslet and Swinton in and have a look where they are.
  12. Poor quality game. England lacked pace and ideas through the middle - everything was a cross or attempted cross. Not a lot of flair - individual skill sadly lacking. Austria showed what men's Eastern European football looked like in the 1980's. Workwomen like, thus boring and far worse than the men's version which is also a waste of 90 minutes. I won't sit through that again or maybe I need to adjust my expectations?
  13. We're lucky in that we play in the NE League so it's not too bad. A lot of parents have no history with the game so the biggest issue by far is player decent but protective parents, particularly those who coach or administrate for the club, are the worst culprits. My biggest issue is clapping and cheering a knock-on or similar error. That's where it starts - you condone celebrating mistakes then it grows from there creating animosity from the opposition. I just think you're asking a lot from a kid who is carrying a large ball with half sized hands to be error free. Is it really to be celebrated? My advice to the RFL would be to prevent coaches and administrators commenting on the opposition during play. "He'll miss that kick", "Knock-on?! - YES!!" etc No need. You only draw criticism for your own child's mistakes and set a bad example. If that was implemented I could simply remind people not to do it.
  14. The RFL have introduced Game Day Manager's at junior level and I'm one of them. That individual has to step in to try and calm their own speccies down. If they can't they inform the ref who has the power to stop the game. Zero tolerance is the only way forward. However having "trained" for this role it puts a heavy burden on me when it gets heated.
  15. This forum is like a rural parish council.......
  16. SL should go to 14 and grow dependent on adding franchises. Ideally aiming for a league of 20 over the next 10 years or so. It's a strategy for growth based on external investment, not spreading the jam too thinly. P&R should only exist between the remaining non-franchised clubs and the winner of the championship. Champs and L1 merge into a seeded comp. with maximum number of f/t players in squads. I know there's an argument about building a squad for SL if you win the champ but that is the least bad scenario. Maybe P&R could happen every 2 years?
  17. Funny I was thinking about this myself this morning but more about the nick names clubs used to have or still have even though they have a newer moniker. Wire for example, or The Gallant Youths. Steam Pigs, etc
  18. We've just had this conversation in the office. Army surplus stores were awash with (particularly) East German army gear at that time - it was really sought after. Loads of people made fancy dress out of that kind of stuff. It was even a bit trendy to wear the great overcoats, particularly for students.
