  1. Hmmm ‘geographical league’ is an interesting use of words to describe what the Keighley owners stated. I am quite sure that the owners never stated ‘geographical leagues for clubs in the Third Tier’ and they never stated that their idea referred to ALL clubs in the Third Tier. My interpretation of what they stated - and by all means listen to the podcast to see if I am wrong - was to kick out three or four ’non-heartland’ clubs to form their own ‘localised leagues’ to save on travel costs and because those clubs did not bring many supporters. Therefore Cornwall would somehow have to join a league in the south-west with four or five other clubs of similar semi-pro standards; Skolars to do the same in Lindon/South east; Newcastle etc. Where these other clubs were to come from was a mystery. In effect it would force the closure of those clubs. Tell me, is that something that you would support? P.S. I have no issue with Keighley saying that they disagree with the IMG proposals as that is their right.
  2. I fully understood your point about expansion teams and what your are suggesting. I just disagree with you. What does it say about the Keighley owners when Cornwall fund their own travel costs to ‘x’ number of away fixtures but Keighley who made that journey just once use the travel cost argument to suggest that Cornwall should only play in a local competition.
  3. The Keighley owners want rid of non-heartland teams because of travel costs and travel time. But there is a problem with this when you look at the Midland Hurricanes. Note: I requested the quickest travel route on google for the following purpose. So apologies if Google is not totally accurate. Last season Keighley travelled to Portway Stadium the home of Midlands Hurricanes. According to Google the travel time is 2 hours 53 minutes. The journey to Eirias Satdium, Colwyn Bay to play North Wales Crusaders is listed on Google as being 2 hours 38 minutes. If Keighley had remained in League 1 and travelled to Derwent Park, Workington this season the journey would be 2 hours 29 minutes. However, this season the Hurricanes play at Alexander Stadium which is 10 minutes closer to Keighley. So is the additional travel time of 5 and 14 minutes further than Colwyn Bay or Workington adequate justification to want to remove a so called ‘non-heartland’ team as the Hurricanes? Or should NWC and Workington be kicked out as well? Costs - The Keighley owners stated it cost circa £5k for Keighley to travel to Cornwall. How far would £5k go to encourage greater participation and community involvement in Keighley? You commented that central funding was reduced to accommodate the share that Cornwall received. Do you know how much Cornwall received?
  4. I listened to the owners on a podcast a couple of weeks ago and unless I misheard, one of the ideas put forward by the Keighley owners in the podcast was to kick Newcastle, Cornwall, Skolars and it may have also included the Hurricanes out of the RFL pyramid simply because they do not bring any supporters to Cougar Park and it cost Keighley around £5k to travel to Cornwall. The solution the owners gave given was that these discarded teams ought to play in localised competitions with four or five other teams of similar ability to develop rivalries. Where the hell are 16 other teams (4 clubs per area) at a semi pro level going to materialise from? How does 4 home games a year sustain a semi pro club ….. absolute nonsense. It got better. If those localised leagues actually eventuated the Keighley owners then appeared to state that those clubs - I thought they meant Newcastle, Cornwall, Skolars and Hurricanes - would be welcomed back into the RFL family even if it took the next 15 years. But what would happen to the other 16 clubs Apologies if I am misremembering the above as it was a couple of weeks ago since I listened to the podcast.
  5. No agenda from me. Was just interested to see if the ‘movement’ by the Council and investors occurred after IMG was announced as RFL partners. As you say it wasn’t then it demonstrates that a club outside of SL can look to move forward if there are supportive external organisations, such as the local Council, that can be a catalyst for attracting other investment.
  6. After reading the first couple of pages of this thread I was tempted to ask two questions. First. Was the initial discussion held by the local Council/other parties for Oldham RLFC to share Boundary Park held before the the announcement about IMG’s involvement in RL, and, Secondly, did the Group that purchased the club decide to do so prior to the announcement about IMG’s involvement in the game’. Just curious that’s all.
  7. I saw the figure written down recently. Prior to a recent SKY game Jon Wells provided an analysis based on why some clubs do not spend up to the salary cap. IIRC the screen shot showed- £2.1m salary cap, £1.5m income from SKY. The bottom line was that every club had to find £600k to meet the SC as well as fund the money to run off field operations.
  8. My favourite brawl never occurred ……. it would have been the one where some lunatic fancied their chance against Kevin Ward. But for some strange reason I cannot recall anyone having a pop at Wardy
  9. I can’t understand how such a clash occurs. As you stated, every away club will know what the home team kit is. Is the issue that every team wants to play in their away kit irrespective of a potential clash. IMHO the travelling team should take both away and home kit and the Match Commissioner indicates which kit should be used.
  10. Wow. Just watched the recording. A perfect ending to my daughters 30th birthday celebrations. Well done to everyone connected with the Saints.
  11. When we arrived in South Australia in 2006 the only two programs worth watching, each week, on terrestrial TV - even after we got Foxtel - was an improvisation comedy show called ‘Thank God You’re Here’ and a pop quiz hosted by a some chap called Adam Hills titled ‘Spicks and Specks’ which sometimes featured a British comedian or singer. Still watch the repeats and he also recorded some new episodes in the last 12 months. If anyone asked me what is the immediate image that comes into my mind to describe Australia it is the opening bars of the shows intro ‘Spicks and Specks’ by the Bee Gees. Anyway enough of my self indulgence just want to say he’s a reyt good bloke.
  12. Last night at random I watched the film ‘Bull’ on Netflix. Strewth, it was a bit lively!! Not really come across Neil Maskell before but he gave a cracking performance and I always enjoy watching David Hayman. An enjoyable 90 minutes or so with an ending that was totally unpredictable - well for me it was!
  13. Ahhhh! I assumed it was going to be ….... he is coming back to play for nothing!
  14. Hey Gubrats. I will have to ask you this question as you have created a successful business and I am not sure if Hemi has. If your company had created a product that was worth a value of £5 did you then sell it for £5 or did you get your ‘beastly professional liars (sales people)’ to try sell it to your customers for more than £5?
  15. I am not being flippant but I am puzzled about the following. If a player carries the ball at chest height but can only be tackled at the waist or below then how does the defending team get the ball? Also would it be possible for the attacking team to keep the ball above waist height and keep passing the ball to supporting players therefore denying the defending team the opportunity to get the ball. Or have I missed something?
  16. The present set up is great for me! Thursday night (UK) game means I record it and watch it after I have finished work on Friday afternoon. Friday night (UK) game means I record it and watch it Saturday morning. Saturday night (UK) game featuring Catalan at home means I record it and watch it Sunday morning.
  17. Just flicking through YouTube and came across an excerpt of Freddie Starr doing his tribute to the song ‘Vincent’ in 1993. Thank God I had my corset on or my sides would have split with laughter and ended up in next doors back yard! Absolute genius.
  18. I accidentally walked into the Butchers and asked if they sold condoms. The Butcher said ‘Try Boots’. I replied ‘I don’t want to kick her to death!’.
  19. How about Derek copying the Atlanta Braves (Baseball). The Braves have a person known as The Freeze who races fans (or should they be called supporters …. who knows) around the outfield in a challenge race with an $100 prize. I wish I knew how to put YouTube footage of The Freeze on here. So here is my idea. Why doesn’t Derek bring along a Leopard and have a raffle to find which fan (or supporter) has the opportunity to race against the Leopard around the pitch. Obviously the fan (or supporter) gets a big head start. If the fan (or supporter) wins the race they get a meat pie of their choice. If the Leopard catches them ……. well it offers SKY something different!
  20. What are you babbling on about my dear chap. At my age it takes me 28 and a half minutes to get on the bar. Then add on 22 seconds to take my socks off. Then add on another 28 seconds to get over the cramp in my toes by rubbing them vociferously. Oh, and naturally there is the compulsory 20 seconds begging and promising I will take her out shopping the following day. Then Geronimo!!!
  21. Hey Johnny if you think that’s a wild night this will blow your socks off!!!!! At the right time of the year after listening to Popmaster we would put on that weeks episodes of HIGNFY and Mock the Week. Pretty stirring stuff you must agree. But now Mock the Week is no more it means we might well be forced to have rumpty tumpty on the bar to while away those 30 minutes
  22. Thank God he is taking popmaster with him. Every Saturday night when me and the missus have nothing on - and I don’t mean clothes …. Ooeeer missus - we open up a bottle of the old vino collapso and listen to the 5 popmasters of that week. Only question for us is whether we can still listen to popmaster when he moves to the new station?
  23. Re: the population growth. Yep younger people seem to want to move to the bright lights, big city and if lucky, bigger bucks. Can’t blame them for that and good luck to those that choose to move interstate. No problem about you referring to Adelaide as Sleepy Joe ……. I used to find Wakefield a bit too hectic!
