Just heard My Back Pages by The Byrds on 6Music. What a good record....I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

Very good stuff; haven't revisited their back catalogue for a while.

Listened to a few tracks already, thanks to AutoRip, and I may have made a mistake. It sounds like a different (and much worse) band from the inventive and mighty sounds of 'In a Town called Addis'. It's all a bit whiney and unimaginative. Chalk it up to experience...

This isn't my favourite Paul Kelly song, but the lyrics may may be apposite as a theme tune for certain threads on the main forum.

You're Still Picking The Same Sore

I have known you both now it seems for so long
I can't get you together so I've written you a song
Take it as you please with a frown or with a smile
Or think about it for a while
You're still fighting an old, old war
You just keep on picking the same sore

First I hear one story like it's the cold hard facts
Then I hear the other say 'No, it was never like that'
One day I'm a doctor, the next day I'm a guide
And you 'both want me to take sides
You're still fighting a cold, cold war
And you just keep on picking the same sore

No matter what I do I know that I can't win
He says 'What'd she say?' then she says 'What'd you hear from him?'
And neither one of you will ever take the blame
You both should be ashamed
When you first met you were just like kids in a candy store
Now you both keep picking the same sore

I think I'll get together all your friends and me
And we'll buy a boat and send you off to sea
And you can sail that ship to a far off distant shore
And keep on fighting evermore
And there'll be no one there for you to bore
And you can both keep picking the same sore.

Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.

They may not have been a real band, but this is a brilliantly faked period piece, from the movie of the same name.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers have a new album out, 'Hypnotic Eye', which I have ordered and am currently listening to on Spotify. I'm enjoying it so far.

John Kongos' four sons and their imaginatively-named band, Kongos. Even sounds a bit like their Dad.

To Flashback Records (Islington branch) for the first time. Not a bad place at all.

  • Doll by Doll - Gypsy Blood
  • ABC - The Lexicon of Love
  • Lamont Dozier - Love and Beauty (180g pressing)
  • Klaatu - Endangered Species
  • The Persuasions - A Cappella
  • Dion DiMucci - You're not alone

I would have taken a look at the new vinyl, but there were a few people already browsing and I decided to pay up and head home.
