That's not really a fair comparrison, Leigh at best had a team that could have challenged for promotion this year. To take pretty much that squad and expect them to win games in SL without massive imporvements in playing personel was dilousional. Everybody could see it so im not sure why anybody can be surprised. Yes there will be one or two games that they might compete in and with a little bit of luck could gain the odd victory but even a comparison between Wakefield, Salford, and Leigh's squads you can see the vast gulf in quality.

Leigh should have pocketed the cash this season and built a team to push for promotion in 2022 and one that would only take a few improvements to stand a chance of staying up in 2023.

Survival could well come down to the odd victory this year, so why wouldn't the club want to maximise their chances of getting those later in the season? Again, the idea that Duffy has been hard done to and that no one could do a better job is just plain nonsense, as are the suggestions the squad would stuggle in the championship. Did we ever have a hope of getting anything better than 11th? Obviously not, but it doesn't change the fact that the team has performed poorly, particularly when it comes to game plans.

Leigh's squad isn't stacked full of recent part timers without SL experience, there are grand finalists, challenge cup finalists and even winners spread through the team and it's not even like it's an aging squad. The oldest player is Ben Flower at 33 who probably would've played in last years GF but for injury, the second oldest is Tyrone McCarthy who played in last years CC final, the GF the year before. Two of the squad in Thornley and Mason are set to join Wigan next year and I suspect there will be more playing in SL next year too.

Leigh have spent big money on players on and off for the best part of a decade now but always used inexperienced coaches and it's been our downfall. If we are going to build for promotion in 2022 as you suggest, why shouldn't that start with a better quality of coach?

It's incredibly harsh on Duffy to put him in a league with a woefully inadequate squad then sack him after a load of fully expected defeats.

If this story is correct, and I seems it is, then there will be no shortage of applicants keen to work for one of the games most reserved, patient and gentlemanly owners.

Something needed to change, and an amicable agreement was reached in regards of that.  I don't know what the issue is. Duffys gone, life goes on, and Leigh moves on.  Poisoned chalice or not

What did Leighs 430 page SL application say would happen in June if they hadn't won a game?

I don't know. What DID Leigh's 430 page SL application say would happen in June if they hadn't won a game?

I think that - looking from the outside - is a very fair summary.

I've never bought into the notion that Leigh have a terrible squad. Granted, they've had injuries (what team doesn't?) but their best 17 should be competing with the bottom 5-6 in SL and picking up some victories.

Leigh have not had enough top level experience in the coaching department in recent years, and the whole 'jobs for former players' ethos needs to drastically change. Whether Derek Beaumont can get out of the way and appoint a coach who knows his own mind and won't tolerate a mouthy and interfering owner is something that is going to be key

Leigh have a huge amount of cash in the bank - just cant find the players worth spending it on. The hope is some become available soon in the NRL, 2 big forwards are a must and a quality half back. If we get those soon we have a great chance of 11th imho

Can’t see it tbh.  Leigh down, Toulouse up.

To be honest, I can see two up and no one down!

Gden point binned as you can't have P&R based on that format nor based on the current percentage system.
