Ghosts of Easters past

Putting aside the recent (21st century) easter games between the two teams, the tradition goes back to the 1930s of spending Easter hating each others guts.  The fight for the golden easter egg started on Easter saturday 1932…and the chocolates went to Hornets with a 16-5 win at watersheddings.  Results following that were

Easter Saturday 1933 26-0 for Oldham at the sheddings (oldham referee I think)

Easter Saturday 1948 3-2 to oldham at athletic grounds

Easter Saturday 1949  13-8 for oldham at sheddings

Easter Saturday 1950 13-7 for Oldham at Rochdale

easter saturday 1952 37-10 for Oldham at sheddings ( that oldham referee again)

Game then switched to Easter Monday as follows

1954 10-7 rochdale at athletic grounds

1957 26-12 oldham at sheddings

1961 23-8 Oldham at sheddings

1965 12-10 oldham at athletic grounds

1966 11-9 Oldham at athletic grounds

1969 20-12 oldham at sheddings

1970 ( back to Saturday) 18-0 hornets at athletic grounds (did your guys show up?)

1971 (good friday April 9th, 11-9 rochdale at sheddings (our centenary celebration….what a way to celebrate Hornets first win at the sheddings since 1934…..that was some night!)

1974 easter monday 9-5 hornets at athletic grounds.

 

So when you go to the game on Friday….please remember the spirit of ‘71….and the man who scored 9 of the 11 points…Jim Crellin!

1970 - Maybe Oldham didn't get the memo about it moving to Saturday and they were there on Monday wondering why you guys hadn't turned up
