I noticed from the team sheet that there were quite a few Huddersfield players in our line up. Should we be excited about the possibility of seeing these players in our team. Or dissappointed that we are being used as a grazing ground for the SL players on the fringe of the Giants squad.

Even if Oldham had a SL team, they still would not capture all the best talent from the area. This has bee proven in the past. There are many reasons that kids think the grass is greener.

Agree that not all are money orientated, but I think the Service Area idea is flawed as you are down to selection. Who is to say someone is good enough or not to be in the Service Area set up and if you include all, you are then in a situation where the better players are held back by the coaches having to spend more time bringing the lesser player up to standard.

In addition to what Oldhamer has said. A lot of players leave the game forever at the age of 15 having not been chosen for a scholarship. The SL clubs in my opinion are taking the kids too young. Let them develop and in to full blown adults, then take them. There are a lot of players taken on by SL teams because of their size and not their ability, whereas on the other hand there are a lot of very talented players who have not had their growth spurt early enough and are overlooked.

In my view we would be better off getting the SL clubs to run Development Camps for 14-16 year olds, giving them plenty of chances to run the rule over the talent out there. Then the kids or more importantly their ambitious parents could be left alone.

Not sure on the Service Area idea as you then get elitism which again favours the large rather than the skillfull.
