  1. From what I’m told, Leigh are trying to get the average age of the squad down and as I’d said on a previous post we paid “overs” on 2 year deals for some of these players when we gambled on promotion to attract them to she club, they have done the job they were brought to the club to do and unexpectedly won the Challenge Cup, the players over 30 have generally been offered 1 year extensions on reduced terms, apart from Asiata (2 years) Charnley, OBrien, and Hughes have all extended I believe with Hanley, Dwyer, Macintosh, Norman, Trout, Halton, Mulhern, ODonnell, Lam, Ipape, Davis and Moylan all 2 years + amongst some fringe players, Baxter, Brogan, Brand, Derbyshire Nisbett etc Our new reserves are doing really well in their first season back and we should know by the end of May if the RfL have granted our Elite Academy Licence so we can start to bring some local talent through as a Grade A club. The women are also top Of their league We have a big chunk of salary cap available and 3 quota spaces, 4 if Leutele doesn’t extend so things aren’t too bad at the minute with many of the players leaving generally expected to do so. Hopefully this rebuilding will help us kick on.
  2. From what I can gather Leigh wanted to keep Asiata and offered a good deal, Hull have offered £220k+ per season on a 3 year deal and Lam isn’t getting into a bidding war and already has irons in the fire elsewhere. Asiata sees it as his last pay day before heading home. We will lose Amone aswell.
  3. I’ve nothing against Holmes I think he has been good but he was at Warrington on what I can only assume was a good contract. I was merely stating he will probably be on an inflated contract with Leigh that comes to an end this year as he signed when we were a championship team. We would have had to pay “overs” to get the signature.
  4. I’m assuming Tom Briscoe to be on inflated wages as he signed when we were in the championship, I would imagine there is quite a few who are paid over their market value, (Davis, Holmes. Hughes, Hardaker) who will naturally wash out and free up some cap space. I can’t see see many of these getting another contract with us. Nakabuwai would do a job for Bradford or Featherstone, with Chamberlain going out aswell I’d agree it looks like some business is being done as Macintosh won’t be on Briscoe money.
  5. Even as an eternally hopeful Leigh fan I can only see a KR win today. Having said that it was around this period last year we came back to win in the last minute at Hull KR and then went on a 10 game winning run. Too many injuries and not playing well for long enough patches. KR by 16.
  6. Typical pessimistic Rugby League attitude, don’t ask, don’t get.
  7. Or, is it not plausible to package the championship up with SL games and NRL games on the new Rugby League app??
  8. Is it completely out of the question to approach channel 4 and see if they would better the deal for a weekend slot, it’s peanuts for them and they genuinely seemed disappointed they missed out on the SL rights again.
  9. Can’t see a win tonight for Leigh, I believe the focus this year is to peak nearer the business end of the year hence the lack of pre season friendlies, we fizzled badly last year but all part of the learning curve to consolidate ourselves in SL, I’d expect a few reinforcements mid season.
  10. Reading this Salford are in a much worse financial mess than currently thought. Nearly 1.7M in debt to the council and been outstanding 13 years already. No wonder the council have taken so long to make a decision as it would be the end of Salford and the council don’t want their name on that and will never see any of that debt repaid. I don’t see how the club can survive this season, according to some fans I know they are well down on season tickets this year and fear the worst, they are expecting more departures. I just don’t see a happy ending to this story.
  11. Was nailed on to sign for Warrington and link up with Sam, clearly Sam has seen enough of the Warrington culture and told his brother not to bother.
