"you go out there to hurt the opposition" - Jamie Peacock.

Part of dominating someone is the verbal and pyscological war. Up and down the country from under 6 to open age coaches talk about being loud and aggressive in defence, that the major part of RL.

If i'm taking the field and literally putting my entire body on the line i reserve the right to say whatever swear words i want. I'd swear at the opposition halfback all game and i'd swear at my forwards if they weren't doing their job.

The line i'd draw is racial / homophobic although you will still hear plenty of the "smash the fat ****," "hammer the ginger ****" on any playing field this weekend.

In regards to the future fans, well the public love the bad guy, they go to games to shout at the dirty oppositon player, lets not sterilse things past what they already are, remember a lot of people used to go to Ali fights just in the hope he'd lose.

Absolutely my first words to my opposing number in the first tackle of the game were always something like “You’re f*****g s**t you are, you’re mine all afternoon”.

just part of the psychological war

What a depressing set of posts.  In case anyone has missed it then it's 2017.  Probably the worst thing you can call someone is a C... and the worst accusation you can lay at a sportsman is cheat.  So the combination of the two are right at the the top.

People say it's passion.  Well it is of sorts, manic uncontrolled emotionally immature outpourings.  There were 34 players out there equally passionate and only one chose this level of vitriol.  To justify this behaviour by excusing it as passion is wrong for me.    At top level sport first and foremost you need composure not unbridled emotion.  Graham is a terrific player but I'd rather do without quite frankly.

Forever in our shadow, forever on your mind.

Wow I'm completely of the opposite view. People who are offended by name calling or swearing are in my opinion extremely weak individuals I've little time for.

James Graham in many ways represents why I love RL, I'll be sad to see him retire when he does.

I seriously want to know what part of Australia you live in where you don't hear the word c##t constantly and hearing the word c##t is so shocking to you?

C##t and mate are basically interchangeable words for the younger generations in this country and have been for a long time, I hear young blokes referring to their mates as c##ts (in a positive or negative light) constantly.

"I seriously want to know what part of Australia you live in where you don't hear the word c##t constantly and hearing the word c##t is so shocking to you?"

Probably shouldn't give this info out but..

I grew up going to games with my parents at Redfern Oval around drunks , Drug addicts, thugs etc watching true tough men play RL in the era of the biff & lived and played in the NW of NSW in high crime areas. Despite all that I rarely swear nor do I feel the need to punch people or do any thing else untoward because I WAS RAISED CORRECTLY BY MY PARENTS!!!! The argument presented by Allora and co on this thread is total bs , Just stop with the ###### and admit your scared around blokey blokes at the footy using swear words its a simple as that.

Whilst I agree with what you re saying Konkrete, we don't know it was only Graham who resorted to this level of vitriol. Graham was the only one who was picked up n the microphone. That's not to say anyone else did call Smith or any other of the Aussies either. I'm also confident the Aussies gave as good as they got.

See, I'm of the opposite view. It's the weak people who have to resort to base level because they aren't smart enough to speak a sentence that doesn't include an expletive. Any fool can swear. It's not difficult is it. I don't have a problem with it in the heat of the moment in the midst of the battle but you think it's OK in every day usage. There's a reason we don't like our children to swear.

 Either didn't read or can't comprehend what I've said above aye, If you did you'd have noted that I very rarely swear it's not my thing, I unlike you and Allora don't want to change other people because It's not my business what other adults do and I'm not a coward who tremors with fear if I hear swearing when I'm out either so it simply doesn't affect me.

I'm neither weak nor offended.  But I do object to that behaviour in an England shirt.  I also think that it is beyond disrespectful to 'talk' to a fellow professional like that, and particularly someone of Smith's standing in the game.

People can explain it but you can't possibly justify it.

I personally had much worse said and done to me on a footy field and I loose no sleep over it believe me. Do you think  Malcom Reilly & Vince Karalius where squeaky clean little alter boys who never swore on the field?

Don't know, and probably neither do you.  And we're not just talking about swearing.  We're talking about individual standards that you set yourself together with self control. Would you be happy hearing the Graham phrase being screached across the net at Wimbledon in the ladies final?

Acceptable behaviour changes over time and things that were once 'acceptable' are no longer.  That's progress.

Are there any limits?  What would be an unacceptable thing to say?

Mal is probably one of the mildest spoken blokes you could ever meet.  A little blunt and straight to the point when he was coaching, but not much industrial language.

The problem is, they’re miked up now.  The other is heat of the moment.  But, with kids watching it’s not good and it’s 2017.  He could have just as easily apologised because, whether Smith was cheating or not, it was on the pitch and over.

Don't watch tennis so don't care what they do, Racial abuse is where I personally draw the line.

Ask George Piggins about Mal he might tell a different tail.

Interesting. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree .

Only a couple of years ago I was watching the footie show and Adam Blair referred to 'darkies'. Oh how Paul Vautin and the audience laughed...

No problems Konkrete we'll agree to disagree.

The Footy Show is trash I pay no attention to it.

Things are said on the pitch, so what, but the games done.  A simple reply could have sorted it.

I'm agreeing with you, Things are said & James Graham said something. If anyone should apologise it's the TV broadcasters who put it to air & the morons who decided to mic up the refs.

Well I believe in manners and decent conduct when in public around kids and in some cases Ladies.

I looked at your rants in other threads above this.

No one cares what  dumps you have lived in.

No one cares that you played it hard in some two bob country league where men were men and swore like troopers and went home and got blind and beat their wives and kids.

You seem to live in the past a fair bit always quoting Souths past glories and players from decades ago.

I think you are a dodgy old C##T

You were the one that posted here that the only real men are the ones that were labourers or men that worked with their hands and the rest were not real men just girly boys or something if I remember rightly.

I am not afraid of  simpletons that can not help themselves, that swear where ever they want and have no respect for others sensibilities.

I am not worried about you either "Rabbits" if ever you want to come up to see the Bunnies get beat at Suncorp message me and we can catch up and I'll buy you a Beer ;)  (I travel to Northern NSW occasionally if that helps)

I will leave this here because you are not all there and I am not wasting my time with you.

Save this board the rubbish and message me.

Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.

Couldn’t agree more with James Graham on this one. What do you expect if you mic up a referee??

Same goes for when you put a camera up in the changing rooms and you see somebody’s co@k!!

How the hell did you get into the change rooms to install your camera?

This. Union or League, first hit, "run this channel all you like sonny, but I'm going to #### you up every time you do".

Psychological warfare is an acceptable part of sport.

I was probably worse playing cricket to be fair.

I'll add... its 2017 yes and radio phone ins have had a 6-7 second delay on a show for god knows how long to stop this sort of thing happening... can the tv companies not do this?!?!?

You cannot sanitise this sort of thing.. I swear at myself on a 5-a-side football pitch on a monday night.. when i used to play Rugby i'd swear and curse at different things.. if someone bends your knee the wrong way you are going to swear... the ref might be standing next to you and catch "oh f*ck me that f*cking hurt like a barsteward" or you jumping on the sport shouting "f*ck f*ck f*ckity f*ck" like you do when you stub your toe... you cannot sanitise language out of a hard game.. no matter how sad some people might find that you really just cant.. its up to the TV companies to be a bit more sensible.. use the ref mic yes but censor it a little its not hard!
