Wolf whistling... a hate crime?

And that's her prerogative. If it does bother some women though they should have the right to be able to walk through groups of men without that kind of behaviour (and I am conscious this is a somewhat staged version, despite claims it isnt).

Sitting having dinner with my daughter and wife with this huge photo looming over us - i dont think it is very tasteful tbh and it just sort of shows the embedded behaviours that are accepted.

As I said earlier, if a woman is bothered by male attention then she can always make a complaint. There are harassment laws already in place to facilitate that.  Alternatively, she can carry a hat pin (great bit of advice that!).

Could catcalling and wolf-whistling become hate crimes?

No, in fact, bad taste crimes, felonious assaults on decent behaviour, violations of common sense yes. But no more so than making out that every time stuff is questioned that it's the fault of "political correctness gone mad"

But if you make it a referendum question brexit voters will say it just an innocent statement of appreciation and a question of free speech. So it'll fail to become law.

I got a lift with a guy once who as we drove along with the windows down, howled and whistled at at every passably good looking young woman we passed.

“Waaay darling you wanting some?”

”How’s your minge ginge?”

etc etc etc ad nauseam, after a while I asked him “do you like women?”

”Phwoar yeah!!!”

”So why are you trying to frighten and humiliate them in public?”

Lets be honest that’s what it’s about.

If only those women had had a hat pin then there's no way a man in a passing vehicle could have shouted at them.

Well no.  That is what that bloke was all about.  But while you had to listen to him repeating himself ad nauseam, those women he was shouting at as he passed by would have just heard him the once.

I doubt he would have frightened many women.  He would probably have made most of them roll their eyes.

Do you think he was the only bloke who shouts at women while driving?

Well no.  There are a lot of blokes in this country.  They exist from Lands End to John O'Groats and all points in between.  However, the majority of blokes don't shout daft things through windows as they drive by.

What are the harrassment laws that cover wolf whistling and upskirting?

I know Scotland has specific laws which cover upskirting.
