Chewing gum

Recommended Posts

Just watched yesterday’s cup game replay and found it interesting that Tyrone Roberts seems to be chewing gum throughout the entire game.   Is this considered safe during play in the modern era of health and safety standards?   Or was it something else?

Just watched a bit more and there are several Wigan forwards chewing cud too...

I thought it was the referee who was usually accused of mastication, by aggrieved fans of a team he has just ruled against...or am I muddling my words?

I know 3-4 years ago the players at York chewed Stay Alert gum while warming up to supposedly improve concentration during the match. Can't remember how much caffeine is in it but it's powerful stuff, I wonder if that's what the players are chewing? You also see a lot of footballers chewing gum too.
