Aude Update

Recommended Posts

It looks like that only semi-professional Elite 1 will start- up from this coming weekend along with Elite 1 U19s. Maybe U17s and U15’s too plus schools of rugby catering for 5yrs-14yrs. Elite 2, National,Federal and the Women’s game will have to wait till up to 6 weeks and maybe longer depending on the coronvirus situation - to re-start.

The 3 local Aude Elite 1 sides look on paper ready for a major challenge in 2021 all being well. Lezignan with more than half a dozen former Dragons players on board (Maria, Margalet, Marginet, Stacul, Guasch and Cardace) if you include the coach Cologni in particular well-set. Alan Walsh’s promising teenagers to will complement no doubt the experience. With their new stand and all plus floodlights for the first time which will welcome Villeueuve-sur-Lot to a night match come December – FCL will be up there for sure.

The Corbiere hills around Lezignan looking up presently. Former FCL player and now trainer at the Federal Val d’Orbieu club Stephane Selles is heading up a new expanding school of rugby encompassing other nearby villages at Ornaisons,Val De Dagne and St Laurent. Selles has more than ten toddlers already at the lovely Lagrasse location but the idea is to rotate the school around each village. Promising.

Down the road in Carcassonne also floodlighting upgrading with four new higher pylons ready for this coming weekends visit of Albi. Quite impressed with their recrutement. Two Antipodean lads expected early November along with Mullally and Storey via Toronto and Castleford respectively. Add on the two formidable forwards in Tuilagi fresh from USC Pro2 and Simon from the Dragons. Certainly up-front with two French internationals also in skipper Escamilla and Canet, the latter with plenty of experience behind him in the championship with Toulouse Olympique - the Canaris pack looks formidable certainlyon paper. Sadaoui now retired will assist in the coaching for the Elite 1 and at nearby Villeneuve Minervois. Their Federal reserve link-up didn’t progress last year so expect hopefully some improvement in 2021. Similarly with the U19s back up at Elite1 after year or so in the National comp.

Limoux felt they had it in the bag last year before the Championat was abandoned. Maxime Greseque still at helm will have the bulk of last years squad. Losing half-backs Australian Nona and the extremely talented teenager Rouge to the Dragons reseves will be felt. But the Grizzlises have in recent times been the Aude’s best.

The six derby clashes should be interesting maybe the best in recent times and hopefully get the punters out in numbers. Narbonne rugby union now in the third tier after being a Top 14 club more than a decade back and USC struggles to dominate the department rugby wise, The best of the treize audois could have something to offer in 2021. Fingers crossed.

How come Deesses Catalanes were able to play Lescure on Saturday?

The week before there was the women`s 9s at Toulouges. Successful tournament by all accounts, but again illustrating la folie de Rugby a treize a neuf. The approach of Albi Tigers Rugby League would better establish a distinct identity.

Weird rules last week, no one's allowed changing rooms teams from the same area or areas not under new restrictions could play, most of the union teams and football teams played but only 3 or 4 rl games, most of the amateur teams are canceling as they aren't allowed to sell food, beer or refreshments at games so lose all their income from match day, ferrals usually make around 500 euros per game just at the pop up bar.

Decisions being made tonight about the u19s elite who follow the senior team around, the elite 1 teams are allowed to play this weekend, well up to now they are.

Rl is going to struggle to get back from this in France, probably the same story in a lot of rl areas across the world.

The government make guidelines , then the region respects the rules then does what they feel like by adding extra restrictions , then the rl fédération just decides to stop everything except for some things that they decide at the last second, it's the only fédération in France to make an announcement to call off games

Sunday we can get the bus to Avignon with 50 people(two teams plus staff) eat at a restaurant but only six at the same table, then when we get to the ground we can't go into the changing rooms or use the showers but can play for 80mins with no testing or real regulations.

I reckon its a way to stop sports being played without the government actually saying you're not allowed to play, they're just making it too much hassle and too difficult so everyone just gives up trying and stays at home,

The government is close to making everyone stay home between 7pm and 6am so everyone will just be going to school or work and going home.

Most cities and a few regions are now impose that people must be at home from 9pm to 6pm unless they've a valid reason, if caught a 135euros fine

Wes Lolo a great recruit for Lezignan. Long time Newtown Jets prop who played for Glebe Dirty Reds in the NSW Presidents Cup competition this year. Unlucky not to play NRL thus far and should prove a huge boost for Lezignan.

Our game versus Avignon is still on, but it all depends on Mr macrons speech tonight, looks like we're heading into lockdown or a go to work and be home for 7pm and don't go anywhere at the weekends lockdown !

Yes, heard about the confinement at 8.30 just before the end of training and everyone just deflated!

We'll find out tomorrow about sports, shops and suppliers etc, but if we can't even leave the house until the 1st December we won't be ready to play until the beginning January, 9 excellent weeks of pre season to have it taken away 3 days before the first game of the season!  Gutted!

They're classed as top level sportsmen (sportif d'haut niveau) the club have asked for our national insurance numbers as we're all being tested Friday if we're allowed to play, no news yet though. The problem with u15s and 17s is that the parents will have to transport them around but it would be great if they're all allowed to play,

Carcassonne brought forward KO Saturday to 5pm.Is that because Albi need to get back home for 9pm curfew.

Maybe, they announced on Monday that the u19s won't be playing due to restrictions but nothing has been said by the fédération, they where having trouble with getting playing licenses for their juniors as they canceled our friendly last week,
