Jumbo Visma talk of how to deal with Pojacar , Wout Van Aert and Jonas feature but Sepp Kuss never gets a mench even though he took Jonas up all the mountain stages. Some meally mouthed chat about team mates in Jumbo and Ineos.

Highlight for me was the descent by Pidcock on the Alpe d'huez stage , heart stopping.

Season 2 of Tour De France unchained available from 11 June on Netflix , covering last years race.

Mark Cavendish wins Stage 5 of Le Tour to record his 35th stage win!

Overtakes Merycx as the leading stage winner of all time in the TDF.

Can't get enough of it, mate. Watched the live coverage on Eurosport, the highlights on ITV4 and am now watching The Breakaway on Eurosport. 

It's one of the greatest sporting achievements of all time.

Merycx will not be happy!  I half expected teams to keep denying Cav victory until he ran out of steam but he’s taken his chance early.  Fantastic.

To be fair to Eddie he did say he was happy that such a nice bloke had taken the record outright.

Cav's Astana team were tactically superb in delivering him to the final but it was his experience and talent that got him the win. When you see the overhead shots you see just why he's the greatest sprinter of all time. I don't think anybody could have picked the wheels to follow and chosen the lines he did and when it opened up for him the sheer explosive speed was astonishing. When he slows down as he crosses the line you see the chain whip and fly off the chainring due to the power he's put through the drivetrain.

Just a thought but is it possible to change the title of this topic to just Cycling in the way that we have topics that are Football and Boxing rather than being limited to a particular year or season?

You’re right mate.  Saw that.

The overheads really tell the tale of the final sprint.  We’ll have to enter next year.

Had a bet on Cav 2 days before he won. 2KM out and he got caught up in a crash. He was up for it. love the guy

Epic stage yesterday in the TdF yesterday. Days like that are what the Tour is all about and the battle between Pogacar and Vingegaard is really on now.

Remarkable from Vingegaard when you consider it was only three months ago that he was involved in a crash that could have killed him never mind ended his career.

I'll have to find a new favourite sprinter.

Following Laurent Jalabert, John Degenkolb and Andre Greipel, Caleb Ewen announced his retirement yesterday.

I don't have an automatic replacement unless, as I'm hoping, Annaud Demare can recover some form and contest big sprints. 

Now Eurosport has been wound up, there's not much live cycling on free-to-air TV. It means I can't look out for the new kids on the block.

Yesterday from Simon Yates was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen in a Grand Tour stage.

Only has to stay upright today into Rome and the Trofea Senza Fine is his, what an achievement.

That really was weird. Seemed totally wrapped up in his battle with Carapaz and oblivious to the real threat even though he must have known what was happening.

Wout Van Aert is a superstar cyclist ... one of the highest paid in the world.

Two days ago, he buried himself as a domestique to wind-shield his team-mate Simon Yates to overall victory up those mountains. 

Yesterday, he buried himself as a lead-out man to enable his team-mate Olav Klooij win the sprint at  the final stage in Rome.

If he has an ego, he keeps quiet about it.

Seems like a really nice bloke too. We watched him win a Tour of Britain stage on Beverley Westwood a couple of years ago. He was really happy to chat to everybody afterwards and he was great with the young fans who wanted selfies with him.

Van Aert featured heavily in the Netflix doco a few years back. He seems like an ambitious bloke, and if I remember correctly saw himself as a potential GC rider. No chance of that now, but he's about as good a domestique as they come.

The ITV4 Tour de France team is one of the best there is sport. Such a shame this is their last year of live coverage of the event.

The predictable carnage yesterday of the early stages. Just one day in and two big names in Ganna and Bisseger have already abandoned.

David Millar in particular provides an insight into the strategy and tactics deployed in each stage. He does get somewhat excited in the last 500 metres, though. Cycling's answer to Peter O'Sullivan.
