The most predictable division

Anybody after bankers….then look to bet on League 1.

Half way through the season. Every team has beaten all the teams below them and lost to all the teams above them…..except for one game. Oldham managed a draw at home to Dewsbury. It even extended to where two league 1 teams met in the challenge cup.

So forget all your investment advisors….if you want to make money….bet on League 1.

With the odds you'd get, you'd have to be putting on serious amounts to get decent returns though for this very reason.

I said a few weeks ago that the final league positions already looked to be in place after only a few games. The only team looking likely to climb the table are Crusaders. Top 3 and bottom 3 are locked in already.

Saying that with it being so predicatable it's not worth betting. Be lucky to get evens on a 4 team accumulator

Are there any bookmakers offering odds on L1 matches?

I think you should have put a bit of a disclaimer at the bottom of this one... this post is not advice or a personal recommendation.

"The history of the world is the history of the triumph of the heartless over the mindless." — Sir Humphrey Appleby.

"If someone doesn't value evidence, what evidence are you going to provide to prove that they should value it? If someone doesn't value logic, what logical argument could you provide to show the importance of logic?" — Sam Harris

There needs to be something to even this division up for sure. It's easy to see why old clubs nearer the vast number of community and academy players do better than those that arent in a semi pro division. You can also, not quiet but almost, draw a circle round the most densly populated league player pools and just order the table based on distance from that at the start of the season, rather than play any matches. I'm not going to lie, it's actually put me off driving to the game the other week when other commitments meant it would have been a bit tight to get there in time, knowing the result beforehand.

My original comment about betting was tongue in cheek, but your comment about knowing the result before the game is played must affect what are already very low attendances.

Then again I am going to Souths Magpies v Ipswich Jets in the QRL on Sunday. Take a look at that league table. Why am I going….well the Mrs likes me out of the house

Agreed 100%. Funding is virtually nil now but even when it was a relatively well funded division all teams got the same money or thereabouts. This is even though it costs far more for southern based club to attract experienced players. Until there is a funded long term plan then clubs outside the heartlands will always be up against it.

Have to say it doesn't entice me to go watch Skolars when I know they'll get tonked

A bit of an odd season for us. We finished 3rd in the league last season and got knocked out in the playoffs. We lost some experienced players to Championship clubs or retirement, so this year was a relatively new team. We've played all the top teams and lost. We've only really had one proper home game all season (We played Dewsbury at 'home' in Widnes) and now after being promised Eirias park would be ready for 11th June, we've been let down by the stadium not finishing the work on time. Add to that a list of 13 injuries during our first 6 game, we've done well to win 3 on the bounce!
