ghost of uncle fester
Anyone else sitting here thinking thanks to IMG ,future restructure, what's the actual point of this coming season,we all know we're we stand now ,no promotion unless your in a select 2(Wakefield, Toulouse),not going down ,bar a possible money spinner in 1895 or challenge cup, mediocre prize money based on final position that's it ,clubs are being encouraged to find their own non central funding income streams, but as we were the only way you could increase your streams was through success, success brings more income, promotion brings bigger crowds, bigger sponsors ,those bring better players, better crowds ,and that traditional pathway is being taken away by social media, fandom blabla, like any sport success should be rewarded on the pitch not social media 5

Can't clubs graded B get promoted if they win the championship? That was my understanding anyway. I don't think it's just the top 12 in the IMG points standing automatically get SL places. Cat B clubs do not have to win the Championship GF to be 'promoted', they simply () have to score more IMG points than a current Cat B SL incumbent. So, if things had been going live next season Toulouse would be promoted and not London and Leigh would have been relegated not Wakefield. Gus Tyson
I think the RFL have turned to IMG as the RFL has lost its direction. Look at the poor crowds at big games like Challenge cup final, the GF and the 2 England internationals so far. The RFL need to do something to get people watching RL again and they probably see IMG as having a solution. There does seem to be some strange scoring which will probably get them the teams they want to build the future of RL on. The risk of this is losing established clubs and also expanding clubs like Newcastle. I'd like to see the RFL being fair and helping struggling clubs out like when they bought Odsal as an example (sure there are other instances), otherwise were going to see more teams dying over the next few years.

Spot on. The RFL have lost its direction. They have turned to IMG to provide something new. They have tried to shake things up but they are just rearranging the deckchairs. They are stymied by the parochialism of the clubs themselves especially the Superleague. ( but in truth it's all of the clubs). Maurice Lyndsay tried to shake the tree but the conservative reaction ( from all stakeholders) would not buy into it.We will never know if the game would have changed for better or for worse. We do know that in the 25 years since then the amateur game has contrac5ted, crowds have diminished at club level and the game has not expanded within the consciousness of the sporting public. So, the RFL have turned to what is supposed to be a specialist P&R organisation that should make money for both parties. So far I cannot see much sign that that is happening. My fear is that those conservative forces fill drive IMG away and we will be left with a rudderless governing body that is bereft of ideas as the whole ship slowly sinks. 2 Ron Banks Midlands Hurricanes and Barrow
Masters 13
Rugby league doesn't need IMG. The game would be restored if the game removed the Super League name & brand. When the Super league name came about, the game lost its identity and those clubs who were doing well in league 25 years ago prospered and the lower clubs were destined to demise as did the sport.
