The six nations competing in the 2024 Rugby League European Championship have arrived in the Serbian capital Belgrade. The tournament opens with quarter-final games tomorrow (Sunday) between Serbia and Ukraine, followed by Scotland versus USA.

Defending champions England’s Community Lions enter at the semi-final stage to take on either Serbia or Ukraine on Wednesday 17 July, while France - favoutites after their recent win over England Academy - will face the winner of Scotland and USA, as they bid to regain the title which they won in 2018. The two losing quarter-finalists will meet in the 5th vs 6th place play-off game.

Great to see all nations, apart from Scotland as usual, picking domestic home grown players.

2 players from Scottish clubs. Shocking isn’t it.

Very excited to watch the Serbia Team. 8 of the players in the squad have already played for Senior National team. Very encouraging stuff for the future of Serbia, hope they do well.

Ukraine should be execiting too. They did very well at the last tournament.

Don’t know what to expect from the USA. Every player in there squad is from Utah which is interesting. Hope they can give Scotland a good game.

This tournament should be very easy for France. They should beat everyone comfortably.

As we move into Day 2, Gomersall is going to need to lift as Damien is out to a fantastic and early 8-2 lead.

A great start here for Damien scoring seven in day 1, he leaves Gomersall behind on two.

Day 2 as we are all too aware is the defining day, should he come through unscathed, we think this one is Damien’s to lose.

Whilst I am amazed difficult Alpine weather has affected the Americans, surely the best part of this story is that the match officials are passing the time in Amsterdam, most likely getting blown or getting blown away.

My two hours head start obviously counts for nothing. What can I do? Damien has lots of fanboys.

Coming in to help gomersall catch back up, Clem Martin included in the france squad, no suspension after the academy game and still going to union,

@John Drake can you please merge this with the inferior European u19s Championship thread?

With this thread clearly ahead on the IMG thread criteria it makes sense to put the other out of its misery and save the little it has to offer. A merger will see a much stronger thread going forward and solidify the European u19s Championship claims for a thread a the top table.

Pretty surprised at this as I'd have expected Serbia to be further along, development wise, than Ukraine.

The Serbs never seem to improve IMO. It doesn’t matter if it’s their juniors or their seniors they reach a level and just stagnate.

Yeah, I was going to say this too. They have done some great things and have a proper competition and clubs going but just don't kick on like you say.
