IMG points system

On the main forum under Central Funding:

The Championship and League One Rugby League clubs have found out how much central funding has been proposed and how it will be distributed for the 2025 season.

As we discussed on the radio during the Sheffield Eagles vs Bradford Bulls game at the weekend, the funding will work down from 1st to 13th in the Championship and from 1st to 11th in League One based on where each club sits in the IMG Grading table.

So, the higher your IMG Grading, the more RFL central funding your club will receive.

There has been a slight decrease in the proposed funding with the top Championship club earning just under £150,000 for the 2025 season.

The 13th and bottom-placed Championship club would receive around £85,000, so an incremental difference of around £65,000 between the highest and lowest-placed Championship clubs.

In League One, the central distribution is squeezed further with the highest-placed League One club receiving only £33,000 and the lowest just £18,000. This represents a difference of £16,000 between the highest and lowest-placed League One club.

We worked it out at the weekend that if you shared the total amount of central funding equally, then each of the 24 clubs would receive around £73,000 each.

Unfortunately for the League One clubs, that won't be the case.

What is interesting to note is that promotion from League One to the Championship is worth an extra £50,000, so a great incentive for those clubs who start the League One playoffs this coming weekend.

Central funding should be equal per club across the three divisions…..league position, play offs, promotion and championships are the prizes for successful teams not ‘prize money’. Under the current and proposed systems those with most need get least.

The sustainability of sports like the NFL are based on equal central funding and player drafts that favour teams at the bottom.

To think we used to rush out on a Saturday evening to get the Pink to see the results of games….now its all down to a ‘grading handbook’.

OMG, Saturday evening Pink Final!  In Oldham we had the Green Final too, a must have every Saturday evening around 6pm.

I think both the (Football?) PInk and the Green Final were both printed on coloured paper, but at some point it was only the cover that was coloured, the inside pages then being on white paper. At a later point in time even the covers reverted to B&W and a little bit of that evening magic was lost forever.

Happy days while it lasted though.

When I first ‘introduced’ the Pink to my other half (not from Rochdale!) on her first Saturday night, she shrugged her shoulders - and worse when I opened it to read the info!  Today (I’m told) such a ‘pink paper’ would not cover the same sport results.  I wonder if there are still many of us around who invaded the Carlton Saturday (f)nights too?  Sometimes, it could be much less serene than in the photo.😇😉
