Warrongton badly need another centre, - but I'm not sure what an Aussie Dollar is worth, - That equates to about

“THE enemy should be in no doubt that we are his Nemesis and that we are bringing about his rightful destruction. There are many regional commanders who have stains on their souls and they are stoking the fires of Hell for Saddam. As they die they will know their deeds have brought them to this place. Show them no pity. But those who do not wish to go on that journey, we will not send. As for the others, I expect you to rock their world.

Jesus that will make him the highest erning player in Super League

We do have some Rich people in League these days. Simon Moran at Warrington is one of them and a Genuine supporter

Part of the article says: "Moran swayed King to join the emerging Warrington after several phone conversations and a deal that will rank him in the top five money-earners in the game"

Warrington will either be sailing close to the edge of the salary cap next year then or offloading some other high earners at the end of thios season.

Still a statement of intent from Simon Moran that Warrington have not given up in their quest to join the ranks of the big 5 clubs and a move that should rekindle interest iand optimism n the club at the start of next season.

sailing close to the wind as far as the cap is concerned, warrington have always had a good squad, that is a massive salary in rugby league terms, what they need is a few local lads to push them forward, but they seem to attract the top players, a la johns, king...

warrington have got a few big name aussies, who inevitably dont perform cos they couldnt care less about the club. what it does mean is that the rest of their side is filled with ###### like richie barnett, paul parker, mike wainright, andy bracek etc. they dont have the youth system to sign a few top players and get away with it, wigan are just about managing on the strength of their youngsters

Sunday Telegraph (Aus)

MELBOURNE Storm centre Matt King has signed a deal with English Super League club Warrington that will make him the highest-paid centre in the world.

The Sunday Telegraph has learned King will head to Britain on a four-year deal worth about $2.8million -- or $700,000 a season.

It is anticipated that the Kangaroos centre will announce his decision on Tuesday or Wednesday, after informing team-mates and Storm officials of the deal.

It is believed King signed off on the biggest contract of his career on Friday night -- just 48 hours after scoring a try in the Blues' win over Queensland in Brisbane. That match is now certain to be his last in the Blues' jersey.

Warrington's bid to secure King ends more than six months of negotiation and bidding wars between a host of clubs both from the NRL and Super League.

Most believed King would sign either with Super League giants Wigan or Bradford.

But it is understood the Wolves, bankrolled by British rock promoter Simon Moran, offered King an offer he couldn't refuse.

Moran swayed King to join the emerging Warrington after several phone conversations and a deal that will rank him in the top five money earners in the game.

King, 26, will also link with internationals Adrian Morley, Richie Barnett, Martin Gleeson and Paul Rauhihi at Warrington.

Manly's Michael Monaghan and Chris Hicks have also signed on with the club.

King's decision to relocate to Britain continues the worrying exodus of NRL stars.

Test coach Ricky Stuart last week told The Sunday Telegraph King should be stood down from Origin III in an attempt to ease the player drain. Instead, King said he would use the Origin week to make a decision about his future.

And the Sunday Mail (Aus)

WARRINGTON, the former Super League club of Allan Langer and Andrew Johns, has swooped with a last-minute bid for New South Wales State of Origin centre Matt King, and within the next few days will announce the Test star has signed a four-year deal.

King has been widely tipped to leave the Melbourne Storm at the end of the season for a stint in England, but most speculation centred on the 26-year-old joining traditional powerhouses Wigan or Bradford.

But both clubs are facing penalties for salary cap infringements that would affect their leverage in making a deal for King.

The Rugby Football League may elect to hit both clubs with heavy fines, or alternatively deduct competition points.

The latter would be the more serious sanction for Wigan, because the Warriors would then fall into the relegation zone.

Last week, Hull KR also entered the race for King, but it is understood the club's battle to avoid relegation from the top-flight competition counted against it.

While the deal has not been formally announced by the Wolves or King's manager George Mimis, The Sunday Mail understands that the Storm centre has agreed to terms on a four-year deal in which he will earn around $450,000 a season.

King has a year to run on his contract with Melbourne, but he has a clause in his deal allowing him to leave early if he finds an acceptable deal in Britain.

King will be the last import signing for the Wolves, who have already snapped up Manly pair Michael Monaghan and Chris Hicks, as well as talented New Zealand utility Louis Anderson.

ONe says 700k per season the other 450k per season.

....which proves my point about all the idle speculation. If all the rumours about Warrington's player contracts were true then we'd be over the cap by about

good signing for warrington.

they got him by outbidding wigan maybe that says that moran is keen to outdo wheelan.

paid a bit too much to get him but thats what it took to outbid wigan / bradford

with johns and king going to warrington, more good australian players will want to go there

starting to look like a very good squad.

How do you know?

How much is too much?

And yes, a great squad is forming with the addition of Louis Anderson, Hicks, Monaghan and King.

But who is going to leave to make way for all of these big money imports.

Gleeson to wigan anyone?

Its not beyond the realms of possibility Tricky, but I don't think Wire are a selling club these days.

We've not lost anyone to one of the 'big' clubs since Fozzard, if I remember rightly.

Players will have to leave.

They have signed king, monaghan, hicks and anderson.

They will be losing Sullivan Rauhihi and Grose but the salaries of those dont match to those coming in.

There will be at least 1 big name departure if wire are going to stay under the cap.

That's a reasonable assumption, but again I'm sure no-one knows the true figures.

It reminds me of the Leeds United situation where they were trying to spend to become one of the big boys.... look what happened there in the end!

(I know its not entirely the same situation...... but....)

Or we could just forget all about the cap and sign who we want then pay the fine and lose a couple of points like wigan do.

I don't think many Wire fans would be too upset to see Gleeson go. When we signed him from Saints they got Lyon as a replacement, the rest is history. Gleeson seems to have the kind of attitude problem that's been rife at warrington for too long.

A move to Wigan would probably be good business all round as he might find some heart playing for his home town club.

Gleeson on form is an awesome player he just ain't showing it for us.
