not to this world cup, though.

My immediate thought was another tongue in cheek comment
"Shot term ism "
But I guess if we could win the WC this year then that would give a real boost to attracting more players.

The point to me is that McNamara is doing a reasonable and sensible thing that might directly affect our performance and success in a 2013 event. The better we do, maybe ( big  maybe) it the event may be (more?) profitable.

I'd have said though that the better performance England display in the WC, the more demand their might be for young player development

I have to say, though, that I don't know how McNamara's trip is financed and I don't know how (if) any WC profits might find their way into the RFL coffers to help with develoment

not quite. Its just that the choice of coach is the issue with some people

True, it is subjective I suppose!

I honestly thought National Express had started a new service. I also think it would likely get far more headlines.

TBH it is a very important trip - as well as speaking to and watching his possible England players, he can watch the opposition players playing in their own environment.

It may appear to be a nice trip, but I see it as absolutely crucial.

Hope he has a good trip. The England set up has become so much more professional in recent years. It's the sort of things you would expect from the national coach in many sports, for them to go and see potential players playing in their domestic comp.

You can't dispute the fact that the RFL are giving England every possible opportunity to do well in the World Cup. If we're ultimately not good enough, then so be it. At least it won't be, because the RFL cut corners.

Last year when Steve Mac went to Aus, Gareth Ellis broke his foot and Sam Burgess did his knee in the same game.

This year, G Burgess gets banned for the duration of his trip and Widdop has now dislocated his hip.

Complete coincidence but talk about a bad luck charm!

Hope Widdop recovers well, sounds pretty painful!

Complete waste of money, not least because MacNamara isn't clever enough to eek any info out of watching games live over televised.

Glorified holiday

I think he needs one. At least in the NRL no-one knows who the flip he is. International ignorance has it's advantages in Australia sometimes.
