  1. Obviously, that's just my opinion.
  2. Former Ireland wing forward, and RU Great, Fergus Slattery . . . aged 77. He had been suffering from dementia. Good article about him in the Sunday Times.
  3. Unchanged, One example of Friday's clunky performance is that our wingers received so few (none?) passes. Soutar moves both the ball and himself quicker from a standing start than anyone else at the club.
  4. Queensland were iven a kickable short-range penalty in the second half. They opted to run the ball and came away with nothing. Cost them the game.
  5. The Bulls have some important players back. Not expecting a win, but not a hiding either.
  6. Fan of Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandlerfiction and films? I watched the first episode of Monsieur Spade on U and Drama this weekend.. Top notch dialogue and atmosphere, with authentic 1960's smoking from the characters. However, record it first; whole lotta adverts. Here's the Wikipedia blurb: The year is 1963, and the legendary Detective [Clive Owen] Sam Spade is enjoying his retirement in the South of France. By contrast to his days as a private eye in San Francisco, Spade's life in Bozouls is peaceful and quiet. But the rumored return of his old adversary will change everything. Six beloved nuns have been brutally murdered at the local convent. As the town grieves, secrets emerge, and new leads are established. Spade learns that the murders are somehow connected to a mysterious child who is believed to possess great powers. .
  7. Hopefully, the return of the Odsal corners.
  8. From the Joe webpage: It's important to note that the fees involved with managerial payouts are based on reporting in news outlets only, since the exact details of each contract are never made public. Biggest reported managerial payouts of all time. Antonio Conte (Chelsea) - £26.6m, per Sky Sports. Liam Rosenior (Chelsea) - £24m, per The Sun. Jose Mourinho (Man United) - £19.6m, per The Guardian. Jose Mourinho (Chelsea) - £18m, per Sky Sports. Arsene Wenger (Arsenal) - £17.1m, per Sky Sports. Laurent Blanc (PSG) - £17m, per The Independent. Roberto Mancini (Saudi Arabia) - £16.7m, per The Mail. Jose Mourinho (Tottenham) - £16 million, per ESPN. Brendan Rogers (Liverpool) - £15.6m, per ESPN. Nuno Espirito Santo (Tottenham) - £14 million, per The Sun. Luis Felipe Scolari (Chelsea) - £13.6 million, per The Telegraph. Fabio Capello (Russia) - £13.4 million, per The Irish Independent. Graham Potter (Chelsea) - £13 million, per The Guardian. Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea) - £13 million, per The Mirror. Ruben Amorim (Man United) - £12 million, per BBC Sport.
  9. The original lads were from Bailiff Bridge, Brighouse ... about 4 miles from Odsal. At least one of them worked at specialist welding firm in Halifax that was owned by a bloke I know. (Next door to Percy Shaw's original Cats Eye factory; still going).
  10. Throughly depressing performance from the Bulls. So many injuries cannot not be a normal state of affairs. You have to wonder if the fitness, conditioing and physiotherapy regimes are up to scratch. Beyond that, every new Superleague team needs to husband its finances a field a team with a majority of workhorses plus a few off-the cuff strike players who can spark the team and score individual tries. Well yesterday, premium workhorse Ebon Scurr looked half fit after injury; strike players Waqa Blake and Jayden Nikorima were out injured and so was our nominated-best goalkicker. In yesterday's 21-man squad our only strike players were Connor Wynne and Mitch Soutar. Soutar didn't get picked. I think that our Coach picked a team to limit the damage. That never works. I spent £30 to watch that performance and many of the neighbouring fans had paid for their kids as well. All the Superleague clubs think it's great that the Bulls are in the competition because they bring thousands of fans to away games and will probably lose. Well, yesterday's performance was a shambles, with too many handling mistakes and missed tackles. The volume of Bulls fans that left early yesterday was an indication that projected attendances ... home and away ... will drop considerably. If we had one or two young Academy kids stepping up to the plate, fans would have players to identify with, but that doesn't appear to be on the agenda.
  11. Travelling in hope rather than expectation. Ebon Scurr is back, so pack should be okay. Back three; not worldbeaters but decent. Midfield: not expecting much.
  12. Alex Manninger; former Arsenal and Austria goalkeeper aged 48. 'According to reports from Austria, Manninger’s car was in a collision with a train on a level crossing on the Salzburg local railway'
  13. Surely, Hull FC should be looking at Kurt Haggerty?
  14. These horses are bred for it; they love to jump and race. Cruel? ... I don't think so. If you did away with jump racing and point-to-point racing, very few people would breed those beautiful horses. We'd be left with flat racing riding Arab horses. Nowadays, the population of Shire Horses is in severe decline ... probably the same for Clydesdales, Suffolk Punches and Cleveland Bays. These horses put a monumental effort into building our empire and the industrial revolution. Most Greyounds and Hunting Hounds have to be put down when they age because they are not really suitable for homing in domestic properties. The Senedd is currently banning greyhound racing in Wales. These horses and dogs have a fantastic life when they are alive. Not like the supermarket chickens that people munch every day. Male lambs probably live for a maximum of two years before butchery and male pigs less than a year. When shooting birds was a pre-war feature of the moorland above my home village in Wales, gamekeepers shot crows, magpies and foxes. There was thus a large range of bird breeds across the valleys. Nowadays; just a huge proliferation of crows, magpies and red kites that are absolute killing machines. Incidentally, I have never been rabbiting, shooting or, as an adult, ridden a horse. I don't bet either. Townie hypocrites should keep their sneck out of country pursuits.
