  1. Very sad and great commisserations to his and his brother's family. Whatis it about Premiership footballers who want to buy the fastest cars on the planet? You'd think they'd be extremely concerned to preserving their huge salaries and reduce the risk by driving something sensible every day. There must be a fair chance that the two of them would have survived a similar tyre blowout in a Range Rover.
  2. Always nice to see Leeds wasting their money on duff Aussies.
  3. I only watch Superleague on the telly. However, from what I've seen this season, both Tom Burgess and Elliot Whitehead look like shadows of the players they were when they left Superleague. If someone wants a bashing prop, they should first look at Ebon Scurr.
  4. I think a "reversed swastika" is a revered Hindu icon.
  5. Bulls lost it by sloppy defensive errors. However, York deserved the victory for sticking at it. Jordan Thompson killed us again. We fielded Konrad Hurrell . . . bit of a curate's egg of performance but he finished a lot better than he started. Probably had initial problems adjusting to Paul Grayshon's shirt. Where do we go from here? Short term, Nobby will have to dig out Steve McNamara's Book of Excuses. Longer term, we must try and play a more adventurous game when we have the upper hand.
  6. Jeff Thompson was in the crowd at Lords yesterday. A casual glance at him made me jump . . . I thought it was Sir Les Patterson.
  7. It's the World Test Championship game this week . . . Australia v South Africa at Lords. I haven't watched much of it but am assuming that the Lords pitch is not up to the required standard. A 5-day Test match will be over in 3 days, with no blame able to be attached to the weather.
  8. Archaeologists are the kiss of death on a construction project. The construction company must hold up excavation with 360-degree excavators until they've finished scraping about with trowels. I've worked on three and they've found next to nothing. On one they delayed excavation when the main excavation found the residual wooden stakes of a former (presumed) shepherd's shelter. They found nothing but said it could have been where fighters sheltered before or after the Battle of Towton . . . fought 8 miles away in 1461. It doesn't help that many/most of the Archaeology crew have tattoos and facial piercings. Rant over.
  9. Post -retirement, Benvenuti remained great friends with Emile Griffith (who beat him in one of their three fights) and helped Griffith out with money. Griffith was reviled by the boxing establishment for being gay.
  10. "Celebrity" reality television has reached its nadir with Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House. The normal show is great; however many / most of the Celebrities (all well known, to be fair) are so desperate to get their face on TV that they just offer up unwanted tat that fetches minimal bids. Then they pretend to be delighted to take home less than £2000. Your everyday Dead Auntie Mary's home contents commonly fetch four or five times that.
  11. Haven't seen this earlier . . . Times Obituary this week. Great boxer and great man Nino Benvenuti, 87. 90 fights 7 losses. World Champion at two weights Olympic Champion
