  3. A good quality and close fight despite Bayless’s best attempts to totally spoil it with a bizarre performance , as well as letting Ramirez recover with very long counts

  6. Certainly the case. Technically, Eurovision is a song contest, not a performer or presentation contest. But the voting fans really don't give a toss and will reward the most entertaining entry, for whatever reason. Even if it's a bit hokey, like the (rather gorgeous) Greek girl's green-screened backing dancers, which looked almost like a retro affectation. Just letting the music speak for itself only works when you have a song that genuinely grabs people on its own merits. Salvador Sobral pulled off that for Portugal a few years ago, but he's the recent exception to the rule.

  7. I think a key area we get wrong every time - regardless of how good or bad the song is - is the staging. Compare the British entry in any recent year to literally any other performance in the final and we are light years behind. The same was true last night.

  8. I can't speak for round where you live of course but round here people often do that if someone in the vicinity has been having a noisy party into the early hours of the morning. A few years back a less than reputable family moved in a couple of doors down. They had a ridiculously noisy party one night, finally shutting up about 3 in the morning so I decided the grass needed cutting at 7am. When I went outside I could already hear 2 other lawnmowers and someone drilling.

  10. May 22 Headed south today for my fix It is always to see new teams start and whilst many fall by the wayside, others continue to develop. Today was the first game for Canvey Knights who use the RU facilities. I cannot recollect any other RL game taking place on an island in Great Britain. Travelling there there is however little feeling of being on an island, just a muddy creak to cross. Canvey is part industrial, oil refinery, scrapyard and partly 20th century suburbia but the area to the ground gives an indication of what it must have looked like years ago, the ground being bordered by a creek and former marshland. The whole island is reclaimed from the sea and flooded badly in 1953 As for the match, the visitors Invicta Panthers were also playing their first game at least under that name but have existed on an off for years and may have a tenuous link apart from the name with Kent Invicta. It would not be unjust to describe than as unprepared. Only eleven players travelled and like many RU players they were not physically prepared for RL especially with no breaks for scrums etc. Canvey lent them two and late on a further Canvey player came on a sub having therefore played for both sides. Injuries affected them early and they had 11 or 12 for much of the match. It would be unfair to criticise, this was the first match for the players in either code for some time and I noticed pre game they were also playing at 3 youth age groups today so would have been thin on the ground. Invicta were 10 up early, 28 10 behind at half time and 58 14 when the ref, who was provided by Invicta either due to a no show or no appointment, called a slightly early finish after another injury. There are now 4 teams in Essex so some local games which is good and hopefully there can be further development

  11. The following is the text I've seen re the situation. I don't see how this intimates what you are suggesting. Head Coach Shaun Wane explains: “I keep a very close eye on the NRL and enjoy regular contact with the England squad players Down Under. The players know the standards expected of them as England players. Herbie’s standards have dipped below what I expect. It’s as simple as that.” If Farnworth does see himself as an Aussie, then I hope the love-in on this thread dies back. He's good and has lots of potential, don't get me wrong
