  1. Good start to the season and great to see a big crowd. FCs lack of discipline was appalling really. If they continue to play like that they won't get very far this season. Thought the second sending off was harsh but understandable. Ese ese possibly got away with one in the first half and the other was a nailed on red.
  2. Salford are a bit like a housemate I had at uni. Never paid his rent or bills but was always out on the lash and ordering expensive takeaways.
  3. The replies to this are very sad indeed. Reflects very poorly on York Acorn. So much for the RL family.
  4. League 1 was reduced in size about 3 years ago. This is where the problem lies and should never have happened. That and the serious underfunding of league 1 clubs means the league is pretty much unsustainable. The championship is too big in the current league structure with a couple of clubs usually being whipping boys at the bottom of the table. However I'm not a fan of relegating extra clubs to even the numbers up. I think it more likely that the championship is expanded to 18/20 clubs and league 1 is scrapped altogether.
  5. This whole statement is a really weird and if I was a Widnes fan wouldn't inspire any confidence at all. Really sad that a club of Widnes stature is in such a bad place.
  6. I think the female pundits and presenters who work in RL are top class and better than many of their male counterparts. I can say the same about darts and snooker as other sports that are similar. Football and I'd say RU as well just have a lot of bad pundits male and female. The issue is that the female pundits get a hell of a lot more criticism than their male colleagues.
  7. That mascot Super League is back baby
  8. In any sport. Lots of footballers are now coming out saying they were addicted to painkillers due to using them throughout their career.
  9. Very sad news this. Echo the sentiments above about young players being looked after. Hope Batley (and it has to said some other clubs) will look at the culture around the club.
  10. The cost or extras available of this service will be key. I am a neutral and I subscribe to sky mainly for Football, RL, Darts and Cricket in that order. If sky continue to show Super League games every week I am unlikely to subscribe to another service unless the costs are right or there are other incentives.
  11. There's some cracking stadiums in league 1. Compare and contrast with 'stadiums' in league 1 in RU and it is night and day. The potential is there for all clubs in league 1 to grow
  12. I'm really pleased to see him doing so well after the appalling way he was treated by Keighley. Some people might have walked away from the game. Good luck to him this season
  13. Technically it's still a ruck. The tackler will attempt to put the attacker on their back or slow the play down. The ruck placement is also where the ref measures the 10m from
  14. 'Travel expenses', 'Healthcare', 'Meal allowances' etc. Not making a fortune though I'd suspect with sponsorship etc. top players are comfortable. GAA being amateur means money goes back into facilities which are excellent. The pitches and clubhouses in small villages are far better than any other sport.
  15. Good luck to Thunder. There's loads of good people involved in the NE and they have some of the best fans too. Hope the club rebuilds from here and goes from strength to strength
  16. Tony Collins also does a great podcast about the history of football (of all kinds).
  17. Think this year is fairly wide open and there's quite a few have a chance of winning. Bunting dark horse, Humphries favourite and Smith best value for money betting wise.
  18. I think this argument could be put forward re: the RU announcement where they said all tackles would be below the waist. In RL they are asking people to tackle below the armpit. Admittedly I haven't played for years but the vast majority of tackles made were below the armpit. These changes are not as drastic as people think they are.
  19. People throwing their toys out of the pram threatening to stop watching the sport every time there's something they don't like is amusing. The only people who care are the people making the statement themselves. The sport will continue because like every other sport it has to adapt and evolve with the times.
  20. Some strange responses here to what appear to be well thought out and sensible on evidence based proposals. This is in contrast to how it was handled by RU. The tackles on show are there to demonstrate what could be deemed illegal when the new rules come in. I've always considered upright tackles round the shoulders to be something the game needs to look at due to chances of injury and because it slows the game down. I don't think these rules are anything to worry about and since they are based on medical advice I don't see what choice the RFL have. Looking on the plus side I can see this speeding the game up and creating more try scoring opportunities.
  21. Where is this article from? I've seen some bad RL articles in the last 12 months but this is up there as one of the worst. What has happened to journalistic integrity and writing about a sport you love?
  22. Think a small matter of an invasion of a neighbouring country might mean that's not achieveable at the moment. They still play it there bit not sure it's still as popular
  23. RL doesn't get an awful lot right but I think what they've done with the 1895 cup this year is a brilliant idea. Theres some good match ups here and a chance for some good attendances in a largely forgotten about competition
  24. There's not many examples of RL teams who've benefitted from shared facilities. I can think of loads of cases where the RL team ends up playing second fiddle to the other sports team. Wigan and Hull FC two of the biggest but there are others.
