I know these lads don't earn anything even approaching soccer wages, but nevertheless wouldn't it be refreshing to see items like this being auctioned for (example) a local hospice or childrens ward?

Indeed he can.

Atkins may have given it to somebody to raise money for charity. Presumably, if this is the case, that somebody can go back to him and get it signed by whoever.
