Well if the RL loses a sponsor for a competition like the Challenge Cup then unfortunately these things happen. It not like the sport is tied to gambling in other ways - well certainly not the Betfred SL, Championship and League 1.

Genuinely I would let Eddie Hearn sponsor the whole thing and let him run it - puts his money where his mouth is - and if its a success its worth its weight in gold as far as exposure is concerned - given the North American ties we are generating I would suggest he might want a piece of that

Do the Hearns actually sponsor anything? They are promoters, not administrators or sponsors. They are good at getting sponsorship, I'll give them that.

I just worry that Eddie Hearn is the first potential 'messiah' to appear in the post-Wood era, and people are wanting to gift him everything, just as a reward for not being Nige.

This is exactly what you'd expect them to be saying while a decision is being made around the max stake on FOBTs. Come up with as many scaremongering stories as possible in the hope of that limit not going down to £2.
