RobertAM
Chatting to some knowledgeable folks at the Ontario Rugby League AGM Saturday night and consensus was that it was shortsighted to have let Quinn leave in the first place as he may well have developed into a handy and quick player. If he is re-signed mebbe we will find out. Also discussed whether some CFL players could be converted to decent RL prospects as it would be faster than training youngsters. With Ottawa coming in there would at least be a pathway to RL.??

Question is would the candidates be prepared to spend considerable time in UK as part of the process. Robert, I can see the concerns re. time in the U.K. But, to turn that around, go back to 2017 and think of our young 'uns then like Blake W., Jonny P., Nick R., and our maybe not so young 'uns like Liam K., Jack B., and even QLT. The consensus from them was that this was like a dream come true for them.....getting paid good bucks to play rugby and spending part of the year in Canada doing it. Turn that around for any promising CFL players and would the same not apply? They get paid to play a sport with the added bonus thrown in that for a lot of the time they'd be in England along with a side jaunt to France. Where I can see conflicts is if they were on the steep curve in a professional career and they'd not want to jeopardize climbing the corporate ladder so to speak. Interesting times. fevtom
I have to say I’d be surprised if any CFL players are playing in Super League anytime soon. To go from playing a sport you’ve never really played to the top level would really be something, it really should have been tried in league one. Maybe if/when Ottawa gets up and running that will be an opportunity but in the short term at least I think union players would be more realistic. Anyway worst case scenario you name them and they stay in the infirmary. But just for the stat, they can name me also; and I don't need a visa (yet). fevtom
If Gigot is available I count 19 players that could play Friday assuming there are no further problems with Wilkin and Springer. It does mean I should probably stop watching the Wolfpack though. As good as Gigot is, whenever I've watched him he always seems to have an absolute shocker. manu266
"they don't have salary cap room at the moment. They hope they can make some room soon to allow me to sign for the season." As a payroll specialist I feel sorry for Wolfpack payroll team at the moment, they must run numbers day and night on excel to find the miracle formula. Liam Kay 6. Joe Mellor - named but cannot play 7. Josh McCrone 8. Adam Sidlow 9. Andy Ackers 10. Anthony Mullally 11. Andrew Dixon 12. Bodene Thompson 13. Jon Wilkin - Knee, will have minor surgery 14. Darcy Lussick - Injured, back round 8/9 15. Gadwin Springer - Head, failed concussion protocol 16. Tom Olbison 17 Blake Wallis 18. Brad Singleton 19. Tony Gigot - Bienvenue au club 25. Quinn Ngawati - Waiting for a visa 18 players fit, maybe, I don't know anymore, but I guess we lose interchanges because Worthington was not named on Wednesday. Unless they use Any further changes would need to be approved by the Rugby Football League board in "exceptional circumstances".
Krzzystuff
So I heard on Howlin Hour that the reason Chase is still not playing is because he's applied for a heritage visa to ty and get him off the cap as a quota player? That wouldn't help us in any way this year as we're up to the cap so making him a non import wouldn't change anything am I right? next year it would free u a spot to sign a non Brit but that's all?
manu266
It's not a heritage visa anymore, it's a kolpak passport he needs now. They currently have 6 overseas players, mccrone, Thompson, Wallace, Lussick, Williams and chase thus one too many. Leutele is Samoan so count as the first uk/eu/kolpak non federation trained. With Chase coming back with a uk or samoan passport he would count as the second one. But Sonny had a Samoa passport in the past. Either he lost the citizenship or they dont dare send a millionaire in a consulate lineup. Ngawati would count as Canadian and federation trained since he would be our first born and bred, so would not count in the 2 quotas. But he still needs a UK work visa. With Ottawa coming in there would at least be a pathway to RL.?? It could be done but the money would have to be right. Canadian Rugby Union has had a number of converts over the years with football backgrounds, some in very odd positions as well. Jason Marshall - All-Canadian Quarterback at SFU, converted to Hooker then Prop Forward and played professionally in France and NZ. Hubert Buydens - All-Canadian Linebacker at USask, switched to Rugby and played professionally in NZ Jeff Hassler - All-Canadian Running Back, signed on as a Sevens Player, ended up being scouted by Ospreys in Wales and went on to a very successful career. Was the top try scorer in the Pro14 and a Pro14 dream team member. Tevaughn Campbell - practiced for a month with Canada Sevens and immediately played in the World Series having never played Rugby before, picked the game up effortlessly. He is playing in the NFL now. https://aedelhard.com/blogs/stories/crossing-over-cfler-tevaughn-campbell-the-fastest-man-in-canadian-rugby The biggest issue will be paying CFL talent appropriately. Quality of life in the UK is nowhere near as high as it is in Canada and your money just doesn't go as far.
