Wow Morrisey singing about other peoples songs sounding the same. I take it that at 64 he’s took his own advice and packed in touring.

He still does a bit of touring, but I think racism takes up a lot more of his time these days.

Correct, no energy no anger and Axel can’t seam to sing” more than a few words together (never had a good voice but was good front man)

looks like sex drugs and rock and role finally caught up with them.

At least no one can accuse them of miming

It has been decades since GnR became a live liability, mainly because of Rose's diva behaviour. I'm surprised Glastonbury took the risk.

I look at Glastonbury now and there has been a lot of change since I last went in the mid 90s.

It’s a lot more diverse now in every way and better for it.  I used to feel it had become too commercialised and ‘sold out’ in a way.

But I actually feel it’s more reflective musically of where things are in 2023 and if having bigger elder ‘statespersons’ of music helps fund the other stages (which are more interesting to me) then this seems a price worth paying.

Nobody does Glastonbury for the money - there’s a strict budget even for the biggest headliners.

From a purely business perspective of course it makes sense as the acts get the kudos and exposure from performing and increase the ticket receipts.

Eavis only pays himself a very modest wage each year for organising Glastonbury (think it’s £60k per annum which is absolute peanuts for this level of business).

The rest of the profit covers the cost of putting on Glastonbury and is donated to charities and various causes.

That’s why the majority of people feel positive about it.

Here’s something to help soothe your concerns that he’s a greedy capitalist:

I went to Glastonbury, only the once in 1983. It was still called the CND festival then though. I was in the pub one Thursday night and a mate of a mate said he was going to Glastonbury tomorrow and did anyone fancy coming along? I was in between jobs at that point and thought I'd go along for the ride. I paid in the first day for something like £12 and somehow managed to stay the whole weekend. The only band I can remember seeing was The Beat, although a fair bit of LSD may be the reason there.

Can you imagine that today? The day before Glastonbury....yeah think I'll go along. It's like winning the lottery nowadays for people who want to go and then you could just rock up on the day. (As you did at most gigs tbh)

Well, it'd be nice if the miserable old fart would leave the thread tbh.

We've had a few beers and watched loads of acts on tv, enjoying a few beers and good food while we're at it.

I must admit I've enjoyed most of it so far.

Old favourites - Lightning seeds, Manics, Rick Astley, Courteeners, Texas were all great as ever.

Current acts like Hozier, Lathums, Tom Grennan, Young Father's were superb. Lewis Capaldi was very emotional a difficult watch. Lizzo was a breath of fresh air, superb!

Acts that were a bit left field for me - Sparks, Billy nomates, Kelis, Aitch - all really enjoyable in their own right, particularly Kelis.

As for the headliners, I loved Arctic Monkeys, my wife was bored to tears by them, we both enjoyed Guns n Rose's more than we expected, although I do think some of these headline acts go on a bit too long.

Looking forward to another cracker today. Actually really looking forward to seeing g Elton John.

To be fair, the thread is called Glastonbury Thoughts. And if someone doesn't enjoy it, they are entitled to say as much.

Why they would is a different argument of course but it's not purely for pro comments.

Indeed, and I'm giving my view that I wish they'd sod off, and not that they should be censored.

It's parroting the likes of GB News who criticise events like this just because they see it as full of lefties.

If I'm commenting on a festival thread, I care little about what the organisers cut is - it's a really weird angle.

There are reported to be at least 500 BBC employees - possibly up to 1,000 - swanning around and partying at Glastonbury, some staying at a £400 a night hotel.

BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC4, Radio 1, Radio 1 Dance, Radio 1Xtra, Radio 2, Radio 6 Music, Asian Network and Radio 4 are all broadcasting live from the event.

What a waste of the TV tax.

As RL fans we should probably be careful of this commentary, because they do spend a fair bit on RL too, which is far more niche than Glastonbury.

I share the same outlook and tastes judging by your lists and views haha!

When younger I was much more tribal about music, but that aspect seems less important now which I guess is part of growing up.

I will seek out some specific acts, but I’m happy enough to let whole thing wash over me and enjoy it for what it is.

If it introduces me to something new then I’m even happier too.

I think it was only raised because someone was making the point that artists don't maybe get paid as much as other big festivals because of the kudos attached with playing there and the fundraising element.

And if there's one thing we can say for an absolute certainty, it's that Glastonbury is full of very left wing people. It's probably less left wing than it used to be but it still most definitely is a left wing event.

So what? Do we measure the Super League Grand Final by people's political leanings?

It's all stuff for a political thread - this is not that. But those posts could have been anonymous, we'd have all guessed who it was.
