I think it’s been canned, sad but somewhat predictable.

I just checked yes been put back due to France with drawing from hosting world cup. Shame we cant host it at smaller grounds in England.

No reason why it couldn't have been played as a standalone competition.

Hopefully there'll be international action of some sort for the lower tiers

Nations will have to start organising their own tournaments if they want matches, though they’ll then be accused of being renegade.

Didn't world cup 2021 pay IRL their money upfront before the tournament began? We were told that the IRL's cut didn't depend on profitability.

You think announcing cancellation when France withdrew from hosting 2025 and world cup qualification became uncertain was just an excuse to cover this lack of profit @ATLANTISMAN?

The euros were cancelled because they were being funded by the international board from RLWC/2021 profits.

There were no profits so no euros simple as that.

The Euros were cancelled because they were due to be funded as World Cup qualifiers.

Once the French utterly failed to deliver a World Cup, there was no World Cup to qualify for so the funding wasn't there.

A small part of it effected World Cup qualification, which has likely had an effect on the decision to cancel it.

No doubt. Still no reason to cancel it.

Finances, uncertainty of if/when they will need to be in qualification processes and probably player availability now it’s not World Cup qualification related all probably factors.

Awww, come on.  Stand alone European Championship this year, European Championship with WC qualification whenver we find out if we're having a WC or not.

Can we only have Internationals if there's a World Cup in the offing or summat ?

Are we serious about the  international game or not ?*

*Clearly, the answer to this is no, we're not.

For tiny, part-time nations without finance, it’s a non-starter.

Luckily, the EC has been financed by the Eurooean Federation in the past. Otherwise - you're right - there would never have been any lower tier internationals
