Why would he want to when everything he does is criticised by the fans that don’t even go… I bet if you approached him at games he’d causally have a natter with him

I spoke to him on Sunday after the match at Batley he seriously was gutted for the lads as they’d worked well to get in front but a little smile was on when I said he could be watching us in the 6 😂

Not all fans criticise Mark Sawyer. I don't as we'd not have a club without him.

The idea of a video is that all fans would get to hear what he has to say, if I go and chat to him in the bar after a game, one person hears.

It's a shame we don't have a programme any more. They would always contain a column written by the chairman and another by the coach.

Good point.

This link, however tenuous, has been lost by many clubs and not replaced. A regular mechanism needs to be found that avoids a constant stream of criticism from anonymous naysayers.

Somebody else said this on here recently but it has resonated with me.

Mark Sawyer’s funds into Dewsbury have never been an investment by him. It’s a donation to the club and community.

Said like that my thoughts on it changed.

Think the plan is to help the club do the communication, in similar way to other volunteers help on social media etc .

Kevin Nicholas approach to been in front of the camera is far different than Mark's approach.

I can understand fans flustration of nothing been put out by Mark whether in a social media post or even a fans forum.

In tough times people want answers to what's happening with the club and within the club.

A lot of the fears of the fans could be put to bed with a explanation of where the club currently lays

These are my words not Mark's

If I come out and said something on these lines.. Doesnt have to be in depth or detailed

Due to the uncertainty within the game of rugby league, and the transformation of Super League, Championship & League 1 everything is on hold until the dust settles, once stability is introduced back into the game, where as clubs can then move forward with confidence, money will not be squandered on cheap quick fixes on staying up in the championship, a division come IMG changes we will no longer be in anyway, monies are been conserved that once everything is set in concrete we then can rebuild, and plan for the future, as fans can appreciate things are currently tough at the moment for a lot of clubs, let's stick together, support each other, get thru this difficult time, and come out of the changes within the game and look forward to a brighter future.

Again not Mark's words but mine

The fans just need some reassurance at the moment

You could almost say "a cuddle"

Just to make them feel things cannot get worse and bring a bit of unity.

51st year of supporting Dewsbury this season and as we know there has been bad times, desperate times, heartbreaking times, and the occasional good time, but even in those times I've never seen as much division, unrest in the supporters of Dewsbury.

We need to turnaround the negative energy, stop letting the haters hate, and get this family back together, back as one, nothing lasts forever whether good or bad, weather the storm and things will come good at the other side of the IMG hurricane that is currently battering a lot of clubs. The Game has never been so much under threat as it is now.

Let's just make sure we stick together, get thru this and we're all smiling at the end of the evolution of  rugby league.

Good post.

Just one point - IMG were brought in by the RFL to do a specified job (I don't know the specification) but are conveniently acting as lightning rods for the shortcomings of the game's leadership. All of these problems were there before IMG - they haven't caused them.

Not saying they have caused them. More a contribution to instability where lower clubs are.

It's fine for the top 12

Or will a surprise ambush saying super league is going to 14 teams

That would put up Castleford and surprise surprise Bradford thru the backdoor so to speak

That certainly wouldn't be a surprise would it🤔

Posted (edited)

SL won't expand to 14 as it would mean sharing the Sky TV money out with 2 more clubs.

Not sure having the same 12 teams playing each other year in, year out will work longer term.

If they go to 14 they will then include the next best 2 supported clubs... This could be done by adding the 3 teams who have applied to join league 1

IMG's key objective is to make RL more commercially attractive to sponsors and broadcasters. If they succeed then, maybe, SL can expand. Some more crumbs might also fall from the top table, but that is not a part of their remit, I believe.

All clubs in Championship and C1 are losing money. I can see a decrease in the total number being much more likely than an increase.

IMG's key objective is to make money for themselves as I understand it's a revenue share agreement. It will be interesting to see what the RFL do when they start invoicing for what they see as their share of any revenue.

In the latest LE Podcast, Derek Beaumont is hinting at SL going to 14 by generating a slight reduction in SL distribution. Many benefits seem to come from this idea. If this happens Champs and L1 would need a rethink...

I still think it will go to 14 teams

Despite what's been said

Super league then has

2 French teams

Catalans, Toulouse

Wigan, Saints, Warrington, Leigh, Salford

Leeds, Castleford, Bradford, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Hull, Hull KR

There is no team left in the championship with a large fan base

Admit 2 new teams to League 1

And the balance is restored

Then the drawbridge could be pulled up

The cry is super league clubs don't want 14 teams team in the division and the share out of money will reduce...

Or will it?? 🤔

I don't think that list it quite right. There's some talk London would play a strategic role in SL, the "loser" being Bradford - probably.

The champs and L1 would be a 20 team comp. May as well have 1 league with a 1 up 1 down to SL like the NFP. Dewsbury were quite good on that set up.
